An excellent read, fond memories, you recreate the experience well and I bet the Thwaites pint went down well to a “southerner” and after a win. Probert never fulfilled his early promise to my mind.

I remember Eric smacking one in on the Turf against Stoke who had Gordon Banks in goal in a 1-1 draw.
I think that was our youngest ever side. (1971/72)?

Interesting that you mention having a pint and Probert not fulfilling his early promise in the same post. That’s why he didn’t fulfil his early promise.

I remember that game, I was sitting in the front row of the CFS. We were 2,0 up and absolutely battering them. They pulled 1 back and they took over, it was nerve wrecking, we held on for the first win of the season. At the final whistle, the reaction from the crowd was like we had won the cup

Good read that even though some of the names aren't known to me, the days of 3PM Saturday ko's, the crowd was surprisingly low for a 1st division fixture, mind you I guess our winless start to the season probably contributed towards that, 9 youth team players coming through and making the 1st team, as Mary Hopkins famously sung Those Were The Days.
Hopefully the result is an omen for tonight, but not the eventual relegation outcome.

Played against Eric quite a few times in Fitzwilliam Under 14's league (South Yorks) many, many years ago
Those were the days of proper teams - I played for Bentley Green Imps and he played for South Kirby Labradors - you couldn't make those names up !
Very good player then, but poor loser (joking) - we used to win all the cups and league and they were always second
Sad he passed away at such a younger age

He was an exceptional player with a real talent. I'm sure had he been able to concentrate on his football then he'd have been an outstanding player.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:35 pmPlayed against Eric quite a few times in Fitzwilliam Under 14's league (South Yorks) many, many years ago

Tiger 76-crowds of 11/12000 were quite common back then unless we played the local big city clubs
