Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Not looking good for them, would appear the 2nd season syndrome has well and truly kicked in.

I think a lot of is down to the loss of their keeper.

How often I’ve said on here there is more to goalkeeping than shot-stopping. Ramsdale has one relegation on his CV already, that could be two by season end.

They've scored 4 goals in 9 games. Not sure how much of that is down to the keeper.

Possibly! last season they were the surprise package, and they could go into games without any pressure, IDK what's gone wrong but the Blades are definitely blunt this term, and unless they can find goals from somewhere they're going to struggle to climb the table.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 4:40 pmNot looking good for them, would appear the 2nd season syndrome has well and truly kicked in.
They face a trip to the Hawthorns next, now that is a big game for both them and the Baggies.
Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Just can't put the ball in the net. Gonna be a long season for them I think.

Nail on head really but I also agree with others regarding the keeper it’s a double combo from both ends.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 4:46 pmThey've scored 4 goals in 9 games. Not sure how much of that is down to the keeper.

Their energy levels have dropped significantly since the first lockdown. Having 3 months off is alright, but not for keeping at the level they were at. No real pre season for this campaign and it shows massively imho. They looked a lot like us today at times, completely lost when over the half way line. Fulham, although not great at the back, at least for them look like they can score. Not penalties though
If we don’t finish above these 2, we’re gone.

Interestingly I read today that Henderson is potentially looking for a loan move away from Man U in January.

No one could work their style of play out last year. This season they have spent significantly and brought in a number of players, but not necessarily started them. They seem to be easier to work out this year, but I have noticed (a little bit like us), find it hard to change tactics when going down a goal or too.We need them NOT to start winning

If we don't finish above Fulham & Sheff Utd we'll deserve to go. Right now West Brom look like the 3rd team that could save us, but we need to put wins on the board starting tomorrow.Dyched wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 5:10 pmTheir energy levels have dropped significantly since the first lockdown. Nothing to do we keeper
Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Lose at WBA next week and they are down IMO.
Theyve basically given the rest of the league a 9 game head start.

But you feel like our strikers at least have goals in them. I don't think Barnes is up to it anymore but you'd always back Wood and Jay Rod to get 10 each at this level.

Why not?
Henderson clearly helped organise the back line and instil confidence which went through the team.

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
They are struggling without looking totally abject but then so are
Fulham and West Brom not to mention ourselves - certainly in terms of scoring.
From what I've seen of Sheff. United, Fulham and West Brom it is more than likely that
none of them will be able to pull together a decent run to pull then away
from the relegation zone.
Then again the same could be said of ourselves.
It's going to be a dog fight I suspect and the team to survive will be the one who
can get the better results against each other alongside the odd surprise win
against one of the better teams.

So do clean sheets incase you hadn't noticed when Pope finished 2nd in the golden glove award last season.Wellsy1882 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 6:43 pmThey arent scoring like they were last season

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
It’s everything to do with the keeper. You build a team on solid foundations from the back. You could have Messi and Ronaldo up front but if you’ve got a crap defence you’ll get beat. We know this, from when we lost Heaton and Pope previously.

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
For all those stating Sheff Utd are shot shy this season that's true, but the were hardly prolific last season either they only managed 39 goals in total, which incidentally was less than us we had 43, what's costing them this time is the lack of clean sheets, it's now 12 games and counting since they kept a clean sheet, and that increases the pressure on their strikers to notch the few chances they get, hence why they're propping up the league, the encouragement for them is that pretty much all the games they've lost have been by the odd goal, so it's not as if they're being hammered every week, but equally they somehow need to find themselves on the right end of these fine margins soon, otherwise they'll be in grave danger of being cast adrift by the rest.

Those who argue they need more goals are correct.

I don't whether its a syndrome or not but it seems to me that they have been 'sussed'. Just shows how good our management has been to keep.us up there - till now maybe.

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Henderson was being heavily criticised by his manager at this stage of last season for his mistakes, so can’t blame the keeper for the change in their current form
Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Last year, they were the big surprise, all through the season, people were saying their bubble would burst, but it didn't.
This year is a different matter for them. Regarding ourselves, we've been here before and know a win will come. It's different for them, despite their good season last time they lack some nouse in this league. With their confidence shot, their football style won't get them out of the fix they are in unless results come for them quickly, poor things.

A defence takes great confidence when a keeper is playing well, we've seen it ourselves.

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
They massively over achieved last year. Its not easy for promoted clubs (unless they have recently been in the top division) to stay up - we have a great manager and we weren't able to achieve it.
Also gotta remember only 4 years ago they were a league 1 side

Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
Same as us creating next to nothing - keeper nothing to do with it
Re: Sheff Utd - 2nd season syndrome.
I’ve yet to see a team as bad as we’ve looked so far this season. The Spurs game apart we’ve looked devoid of any idea whatsoever other than sitting back and trying to keep the shape.

Sheff Utd 2020/21 season after 9 games-
goals scored 4
Goals conceded 15
Ratio - 11
No wins, 1 draw, 8 losses.
Zero confidence.
2019-20 season after 9 games -
Scored 9
Conceded 7
Ratio +2
3 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses
Biggest win was 2-0
Biggest loss was 2-1
If some of you are going to keep telling us that it doesn't matter about what happens with a teams own GK and it won't win them games then there isn't really much point carrying this on.
They were a more cohesive unit last season, kept it very tight at the back and picked up wins where they could.
