BBC North West Unsung Sporting Hero Award

Post by ClaretTony » Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:33 pm

I'm absolutely thrilled that a group of football supporters have been recognised and won this award this year.

The award has gone to the supporters of both Everton and Liverpool who set up Fans Supporting Foodbanks. They've worked tirelessly for those in need in their City but they've also helped so many others over the past few years. They inspired us to start our collections last season and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the award.

Massive well done to all of them for what they've achieved. I know them and I know they will be humble, but I hope they enjoy the winning of this award, it is so deserved.

Dave Kelly (Everton) on the left of the pic and Ian Byrne (Liverpool) on the right. Two fantastic people I'm so proud to know.

Second from left is a Liverpool fan who was giving us a cash donation and next to him is one of the West Yorkshire Clarets volunteers. The Spirit of Shankly coaches had a collection for us that day and I think gave us £200 on top of all the food they brought.

A very worthy cause....but I find it hard to believe people in the uk are going hungry in the 21st century....evidently they are though. Well done yourself on your passion and input for the Project.

Be absolutely certain, people are going hungry and worse. What they've started in Liverpool with this is amazing. I know they won't have really wanted this award, I know what they are like. And they get fantastic support from their football clubs too.
