Just announced, he's resigning from his role as CEO at the end of the season.

I thought he had resigned some time ago.....

He's had a good run at the top of the PFA

That parasite has done nothing for players
I assume hes going with a nice fat payoff
He had the opportunity to rid the game of agents the curse of football and tackle racism. He has done neither

He agreed to a review initially which has now been completed and has suggested a major overhaul of the PFA. The members have been informed today that Taylor will now stand down at season's end.

His role is not to rid the game of agents or tackle racism, he's a union leader and his responsibility is for his members. I assume you've not been a footballer so had no direct involvement with the PFA. A lot of players and ex-players I've spoken to have a very different view of Taylor to you.

The most surprising thing about this announcement is that he’s still there

His job is to represent his members which, of course, would include tackling racism. I just find it amusing that people are quick to jump on his back yet so many players and ex-players speak highly of him.

How is it anybody’s in football responsibility to tackle racism? Football players/managers/coaches/however can raise awareness of it existing, but not tackle it. Racism exists without football. It isn’t footballs responsibility to rid the world of it.

A good few years ago I was sitting in that cafe outside Euston station waiting for my train back north, after a midweek away match in London.

I was reading the football section of the paper and a bloke saw this, sat down opposite, and starting talking about the headline( I can't remember what the main story was now).

It was Gordon Taylor. We had a chat about football for at least five minutes.

I take as I find. A pleasant, friendly chap.

I read he'd been chairman since 1981. I'm pretty sure that racism in the game has improved since then.

Sure, that's certainly not down to just him, but it's definitely got better during his time.

Just thinking the other day about footballers who when wearing a long sleeved shirt always played with them rolled up He was one. Think Harry Burrows, older posters may remember him as a decent left winger, did too. There must be others. No idea what got me thinking this; lockdown probably.

I used to see him regularly at Bolton Tech when I attended in the late sixties. A decent winger in his day.

The bulk of Taylor's salary comes from the PFA Charity - the greatest thing he ever did for the PFA was negotiate the deal where they get 5% of Premier League domestic broadcast income in perpetuity - the review announced 2 years ago was delayed for too long - it looked like that was done to extend his stay at the top, there have been long running complaints from families (going back many years) that both Taylor and the union have not done enough in dementia support

I'm surprised he can afford to leave after his alledgedly heavy losses with the bookies.. Must have had a big win at last ..good for him..

£2million a year salary allegedly.

Has had a cushy number for years is an over bloated and overpaid Union official who has done more for himself than the players he pertains to look after. Should have been put out to grass a long time ago and his treatment of those involved in the campaign which links dementia to heading footballs is both disrespectful and downright incompetent.

The PFA has huge resources. They should be helping past players, in need, much more than they do.

I always think of this article when it comes to Taylor.

Over 20 years ago, the PFA spent nearly £2,000,000 on a LS Lowry painting ..... £100k for a investigation into " industrial injuries " suffered by it's former members ....

Burrows took us apart for Stoke (as did Jackie Sinclair at Leicester) more than once.
Tony Waiters took him to Plymouth and they won the old Third Division.
Gordon Taylor also played for Rovers (and a couple of others) and was a handy winger.
He's been a good union rep, as CT confirms is his raison d'etre. Met him briefly once - very down to earth chap.
