I completely disagree, if the team could calm their nerves and increase performance for a full 90 minutes, that would change a teams dynamic. If they can work harder for 90 minutes and be sharper, bonus.Dyched wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 9:43 pmI didn’t say that.
How 1 footballer being guilty of taking banned substances (for weight loss and breathing) can influence a football match where there’s 27 other footballer’s available to play is nonsense. If 1 Burnley player this season decided to do it. Do you really think it’d make a jot of difference to the final outcome of our season? Would Barnes suddenly have the feet of Messi?
I know cycling is a team sport of such, but each individual can influence the result far easier by taking banned substances.
Lance had unusually large lungs and heart. Plus an ability to convert oxygen in his body to provide energy. That’s why he won lots of swimming comps as a boy before taking up cycling. But you need a team to win a tour. Same as a World Cup. You cannot do it alone.individual moments of brilliance like goals or a climb of a high mountain.
Bear in mind loads of new records were set for climbs in 2020, how so when the old guys were so drug fuelled. Even beating Lances times by some distance.

Greatest player I have ever seen by far. I struggle to believe players in previous era's before my time could have matched him.
Debates may continue about messi and ronaldo for similar accolades, but Maradona was truly extraordinary.

Of course if the team all took whatever combination of things Maradona did. But they didn’t. Only he tested positive. That can’t change the out come of a football match.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 9:56 pmI completely disagree, if the team could calm their nerves and increase performance for a full 90 minutes, that would change a teams dynamic. Well if that’s the defence, not sure how many of Lances team tested positive either, but don’t think it was very many. It was all pointed at him.
Whilst rumours of EPO and blood doping were rife, it was not proven it was wide spread. Whilst I admit Lance says it was in his book.
He even tells how two teammates died because they took so much EPO it thickened the blood so much their hearts could not pump it round and they died in their hotel rooms.

lowbank, for anyone who loves the game, to witness talent like Maradona had is a rarity. set aside his demons, the man was a genius. quite often the way he played was genuinely jaw dropping. It may be decades before such a talent adorns the game.

Maradonna played in an era where was kicked off the park. Every player on the pitch did their best to stop him by any means. Well except shilton and Reid.
And every player known to man has cheated at some point in the game.
Enjoy his brilliance. It was a better game in those days with genuine skill, genuine tackling, passion and no var.

Except he didn’t, did he?
So for arguments sake. McNeil takes all the cocaine and booze he can get his hands on for 5 years. Give him a few jabs of whatever Maradona took and see if Burnley win the PL in 5 years singlehandedly. It wouldn’t change a thing. It won’t give him Maradona brilliance and talent.
He took whatever he did to be able to even compete. It’s totally different to a tee total athlete taking it to gain an advantage.

Re: Maradona
My whole point is the hypocrisy of people.
Maradona, a great footballer who cheated and took drugs to enhance his performance.
Lance who did the same.
I see them both the same and both should be treated equally.
I do t care which way it goes. Lance gets his Tours back or Marradona is stripped of his achievements. But both the same.

Sad news for any true football fan, yes Diego had plenty of flaws, but he was one of the greats of the game. RIP Diego.
Ironic that he died 15 years to the day after another flawed genius George Best https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55075808

Re: Maradona
apples and oranges to compare an endurance athlete like armstrong and a football player like maradona.
seems like some people will go to desperate attempts to make themselves look silly on here.
anyway maradona was the best of all time for me. he burnt the candle at both ends and has ultimately paid for it.
fare well.

Maradona can do drugs and anything he finds acceptable that leads to his death. But he is still a hero.
Another athlete because he does an endurance sport is somehow different.
Only in Burnley,

Re: Maradona
armstrong was like count ******* dracula, his warped anti sport cheating was off the scale, maradona was a talented artist, his pressures ruined him as a man, but in a team game his frailties were insignificant compared to that bike bloodsucking weirdo.
anyway, to see a genius playing football was worth everything, to see some manic industrialised drug and chemical cheat on a pushbike was thoroughly dull.

Decent footballer - yeah, ok. He was good in that respect.
I can’t respect cheats. Especially those who go on to revel in it.

Re: Maradona
For all the usual negative comments on here you have to realise that very few people live in the public eye as much as someone like Maradona. The bloke was born in a slum and had to get used to absolute ridiculous levels of attention wherever he went from a very early age. He is probably just the type of person that wanted to please everyone and was obviously manipulated by the likes of the drug lords in Italy. He probably had similar levels of attention to the likes of Princess Diana who equally found life difficult at times (in a different way). It is only a handful of people that can understand the levels of pressure.
As for his football ability it was absolutely magical and he was a genius, no doubt about that. Sad day.
