Minus figures for these two?

Shudder to think what you thought of the others!

A shocker and Lowton was truly awful but we were all bloody horrible and that could have reached 8/9, though honourable mentions for Jay and Benson 5’s

The defence and keeper had an absolute mare, to a man. The midfield was tidy and, I felt, competed as best they could. Nothing for the front three to work with so hard to mark them negatively.

We need to forget this game quickly, this was never one where we were getting anything but a pounding and so it proved. Everton at home provides the potential of points, let’s hope Pope is back in goal and a takeover has happened.

Pat on the back to Josh Benson who did a job in there and looked neat and tidy on what must be the hardest of occasions to make your top flight debut. He didn’t let himself down and until Cork is fit would be third choice for me in there. Similar player to Westwood, and that’s not a bad thing.

it really was difficult to watch, certainly the worst I seen Tark's play from what I can remember, McNeil I thought was much better than the previous couple of matches, what a horrible day for BPF to make a debut, I expect Nick to tell him, look, it's been the same for me for the last few times so you have nothing to worry about and he isn't scarred by it.

I really don't want to give actual scores but McNeil would be my man of the match, one to forget and move on, good news is, I don't think it can get worse so it is almost as if it can only get better from this.

Tough to watch that first half.
Improved a bit in the second.

BPF - 3 As debuts go it weren’t great
Lowton - 3 I can’t give any lower. He is finished at Burnley and if he pulls a Burnley shirt on again it’s a disgrace
Tarky - 3 His head isn’t here anymore. Time to start blooding Dunne/Thomas in the team
Mee - 4 Was as poor as Ben can be
Taylor - 3 Was a tough ask against Mahrez/Walker but had an absolute stinker and as poor as he has played for Burnley
Jay Rod - 4 After playing a blinder against Palace he gets pushed into a midfield/wing role and was anonymous
Westy - 4 Distribution poor. Set pieces exactly the same as we do week in week out and very slow on the ball
Benson - 6 The highlight of this lowlight. Can’t have a tougher debut than this and besides struggling to start with worked into the game and became more prominent
McNeil - 3 Can the real D Mac please step forward because this one is a very pale comparison of a talented player
Barnes - 3 No service but completely lost and I don’t think he was sure what position he was supposed to be playing
Wood - 3 Didn’t win a header, didn’t win a challenge. Pretty much as poor as you get from him

Pieters - 4 Runs about a lot but he is a square peg in a round hole

Irrelevant of it being Man City that performance is unacceptable. We are a beaten team before we get off the team bus. The game as a contest is over after 15 minutes and school boy errors I would have been extremely upset by when my lad was playing u8’s grassroots. Our season isn’t defined on games like this but I am seriously worried about us managing to stay in this division this season. I am hoping that this takeover doesn’t come too late and we end up getting left behind

How anyone can give the keeper 3 is beyond me.

From memory since 1999 we have let 6 in twice against city 5 at least 5 times and 4 plenty more. He hardly made massive errors on the goals.

Sure he wouldn’t have wanted to let 5 in. But more established keepers for us and indeed others have done that against these.

He didn’t do a lot but certainly didn’t make any major errors.

Exactly what I said on the other thread

He faced 6 shots on target and they scored 5 which I’m not sure which he could have done any better with.

Yes he had a few fumbles and got away with the og but I’ve seen a lot worse performances than that from a keeper

BPF 7
Lowton 4
Tarks 4 (rubbish passes cost 2 goals. The first was truly awful and the next time he's giving interviews to newspapers touting for a big money move, he might want to reflect on that)
Mee 5
Taylor 4 (He's normally excellent. But not today. Woeful tbh)
Westwood 5
Benson 7* (+1 because you'd never have known it was his PL debut.)
McNeil 5 (some decent dribbling skills on show at times. Even if it is the art of dribbling into blind alleys, sadly)
Jayrod 6
Barnes 5
Wood 4

Pieters 5
Vydra 4

Yes, we got what we were all expecting and yes, you don't have to be a clairvoyant to know it's going to probably be at least 5-0, but STILL it makes me so annoyed that we make it really easy for them with awful errors. Those first 2 goals were dreadfully, dreadfully poor from us and after that it's all over as a game and that makes a mockery of poor Dyche who was actually trying to do something different for a change, which was to his credit.

Very Poor all round.

So poor that it would be too difficult to score and irrelevant in terms of the season overall.

Onwards and upwards.

Lowton, Wood, Tarkowski, Taylor -- 3
Mee, BPF, Barnes, Pieters ---- 4
Westwood, J Rod -- 5
Benson*, McNeil -- 6
Embarrassing again, we don't have the best squad in the world but we should be doing better than this, highlights shortcomings in our management team and their inability to prepare a viable game plan although gifting city two goals doesn't help.

BPF 3 pretty much as bad as it gets, bailed out by the officials a few times.
Lowton 3 didn’t get near anyone
Tarkowski 3 set the tone early
Mee 4 all over the place
Taylor 3 comprehensively battered all afternoon
Rodriguez 5 a couple of bright spots
Westwood 5 best we had when we got near it
Benson 4 few good touches but gave away so much space. Unlucky with free kick
McNeil 5 few decent touches
Barnes 3 just terrible
Wood 4 who’s be a striker on days like this

Pieters 4
Vydra 4

Even against a top side that was a shocker. It was almost as if an agreement had been made before the game to take it easy with each other.
Give any decent side so much time on the ball time and time again it’s always going to get ugly.

The hammering’s they given us over the past 20 odd years is frightening!! Always get stuffed but thought we just went through motions today you at least need to show a bit of aggression and fight in these games.

I can remember being at Maine Road when we were thumped 7-0 by City in the Bell/Lee/Summerbee days but I'm sure we played better than this. Lack of interest big time from a lot of players IMHO.
Well done Benson is about the only positive.

Literally gave up at halftime. Watched second half with one eye on SSN. Too many playing in unfamiliar positions. Seen some hammering there over the years, but this was the worst. Lucky not to loose by more.

Lowts our best player today ? Wow.

I know the match was over but I’m really struggling to understand how for the final goal that Foden is just stood there on his own with no Burnley player anywhere near him when he is found by De Bruyne (?). I know City are full of wonderfully gifted players but don’t make it even easier for them by not doing the very basics of defending.

We know what Man City can do but it really was horrible to once again see our team reduced to quivering boys.

The next 6 games look as tough as any we have faced to date and hitting the New Year struggling to muster double figures in points and goals is becoming a grim possibility.

I can remember being at Maine Road when we were thumped 7-0 by City in the Bell/Lee/Summerbee days but I'm sure we played better than this. Lack of interest big time from a lot of players IMHO.
Well done Benson is about the only positive.
No we didn’t. We were dire that day. Was Rodney Jones in goal? And we weren’t playing a team put together at such a huge cost either that day.

Horrible individual errors for the first three goals. No way back from that against most teams. Absolutely not against this lot.

My first, or possibly second, away game. We certainly didn't play any better and City missed a penalty ! :(
