If you were the new owners....
Didn't want to bloat the existing new ownership thread whilst waiting to hear what is going on.
If you were the new owners, what would your top priorities be for moving the club forward?
Mine would be:
1 - Retaining SD with news of money to be spent.
2 - Refreshing the squad with 3-4 new players- minimum of 1 marquee signing and make these signings early in the transfer window to show intent.
3 - Once new players are in, start a process of selling the fringe players on with a view it's clear you are wanting serious competition for all places.
And beyond the first 3 months - What would be your priorities be beyond that?
1 - Ability to compete in cup competitions with the depth of squad?
2 - Improved facilities at Turf Moor
3 - Making our youth team commercially productive

Re: If you were the new owners....
Depends on when any new ownership takes place.
If it were to happen at a point beyond which relegation is unavoidable, any new owner would need to factor in the major loss in financial value that the club will suffer.
It might be back to selling off players to pay off the electric bill.

Re: If you were the new owners....
The top priority has to be sorting the playing squad out. Getting rid of the dead wood and bringing our average age down a bit. Realistically it's a bit of a mess due to our inaction over the last year or two.
Obviously they need to sit down and have a good talk with Dyche about how they see things going forward. They may have different ideas, or Dyche may think after 10 years with us it's time for a change, who knows?

Re: If you were the new owners....
Im assuming someone buying the club has an investment plan also to put money into the club over and above this and won't be seeking to cashflow the business in the same way that the current board does.
I don't want to get this into a replacement thread for the other owners thread. Just keen to understand what other fans would like to see as the new owners priorities regardless of when they take over.

Yep - average age coming down is certainly needed and I read that SD was admired by both sets of potential players -sounds like MG being at the club may be also a driver of how long he sticks around.jrgbfc wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:37 amThe top priority has to be sorting the playing squad out. Re: If you were the new owners....
I would be studying the length remaining of the contracts for the current playing squad including relegation clauses, with a view to surviving in the Championship. Because that is where we are heading.
Re: If you were the new owners....
Id look into the myth that is Dyche fit. Our movement off the ball when In possession is border line lazy. No forward runs or decent distance travelled with the ball. I'd love to know how many offensive sprints the team make.

Those aren’t realistic.
Serious competition for each position? Your talking 25 man squad with every player having the ability to challenge for a starting spot. That doesn’t happen at the top clubs, never mind here.
You can put everything in place for the youth system to get the best out of it. Beyond that it’s a lottery. The better our first team get the harder it’ll be for youth players stepping up. They also have to perform. It’s okay saying for instance Benson did well yesterday, which he did. But he’s now got to show he can offer more than the others in that position consistently.
Cup competitions come down to luck of the draw. The Lincoln season was a great chance to progress which we failed to do. The season finishing 7th we were all but safe by January and a cup run was possible, we then drew Man City and that was that.
The Turf does need improving. I’d personally rebuild both the BL and Cricket Field. I’m not on about adding 10,000s of seats we don’t need that. But rebuild them how they currently are but bring them into the 21st century.
The problem is with football, you can do all the planning you want. A bad 4 months and everything can go south, fast.

Re: If you were the new owners....
The entire commercial viability as an investment platform hinges hinges on being beamed around the world via the Premier League.
With that in mind some basic investment in the team to give us a better chance of survival, then look longer term to making the youth system a money maker.
Investment in the ground and cup runs (which internationally draw less interest) I don't see as a priority as the ROI in small and very long term.
My worry is the club becomes an asset on a spreadsheet that will be used to leverage funds for other investments. But on the other hand at least that means they will need us to stay up too keep that regular income ticking over so might continue to feed some money in to keep the squad viable.

I would ensure a troop of Hawaiian dancers were on hand to ply disgruntled fans with traditional beverages should we suffer a home defeat.
Re: If you were the new owners....
Well firstly we need to keep all the fans onside, so it has to be season ticket are frozen again, once thsts achieved most will believe anything you tell them.
I'd want to hear from them
A long term plan regards the youth set up, where we are producing players capable to play league football at the very least, with one or 2 making the first team squad in any one season.
A plan to purchase players to develop whilst in our first team which can then be sold to fund the next.
Hopefully build an identity at the club where we play a certain style right through.
Have good communication with the fans, then listen to them regards off the field things facilities in and around the stadium etc.
Actually become and exercise the one club for all motto we hear but never see.
A transparency and honesty with fans.
Being a pro active club, rather than a reactive one.
Just the simple basics that we have really struggled with as a club of late.

Re: If you were the new owners....
Spend nothing on the ground
New right back absolute must
Tough tackling cm playmaker
Right winger who can beat a man and cross Glen Little style

Tough tackling? They get booked for clearing the ball and the forward running into their follow through these days. A tough tackler is a certain red card.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:33 pmSpend nothing on the ground

Re: If you were the new owners....
Much depends on how I view the current situation
in respect to staying in the top league and rebuilding the team.
Which means how much money would I be willing to spend
on the 2 or 3 players we may need to keep us up.
This alongside how many of the current youth are
likely to progress into the team this or next season.
So if it was me then I would sanction spending be it in January
or the summer. If unsuccessful and we are relegated
then I'd be relatively confident that I could recoup much, if not most of
the spend by selling a few players in the summer.
And then hope we could get back in our first season.
At present I wouldn't be too confident we could do it especially if it
meant we'd have to replace half the team.

Re: If you were the new owners....
I'd do absolutely nothing bar speak to SD and identify 2/3 key areas and targets for January and then make sure we got them to give us some chance of staying in the PL. If we don't everything else is totally re thought and readjusted and seriously scaled down. If we manage to survive, then I'd start making serious plans.
Re: If you were the new owners....
If when they sign on the dotted line we look certain for a 3 out of 5 club relegation dogfight not sure what "marquee" player/s would be interested or tempted.
