Does anyone actually enjoy watching us play?

Can't remember last time I was really looking forward to watching us play. Its usually a thank god that's over, and we've managed to hold on for a win or a draw.Maybe it's time to stop watching or is it just the style of football we have to watch

When it works it can be exhilarating , especially at the Turf when the crowd get going. However when it doesn't work...which has been virtually all this season, it's not pretty. I will always watch us and enjoy it if we win but I'm a diehard . In the Championship it's possible for us to be much more expansive but the quality of the opposition , in terms of pace and touch, is so high in the PL that without massive spending we can't really competitively play a brand of football based on skill, speed and finesse. It's s dilemma but ultimately for me the end has fully justified the means over the last 5 years.

It's the fact that we are Burnley fans, Burnley are our team, we are supposed to support and watch our team in good AND bad times...but I suppose some fans would just like to watch and support us in the good times. I blame my dad for taking me 54 years ago !......No it's not always enjoyable, but that's life as a Burnley fan.

Strange one for me, I’m not in the slightest arsed about the premier league like some are, I’d watch us at padiham on a Tuesday night. If I’m honest, I stopped enjoying top level football about 5-6 years ago, that’s not to say I’ve not enjoyed watching us at times... it’s top level football in general. I turned down a free season ticket because I enjoy my Saturdays with the kids more, still love Burnley and always will but got fed up of watching it, pains me to say that

What would people prefer?

Us being the only team to take any points at Anfield in nearly two years,

Or seeing every other PL side come up short, despite more attractive football (according to some)?

I must point out that I'm enjoying it a lot more than the period when Les Lawrence was playing for us!

It's not great at the minute, is it?

The football we play isn't particularly attractive, we aren't getting many results this season and we don't get the experience of going to the match.

However, many of us have had to endure unattractive football and not getting results in all of the divisions below the top flight so in that respect we ought to count our blessings.

So many factors which make watching us, or the PL in general, less attractive.
VAR,
The rules,
cheating,
empty stadia,
and then there's our current poor performances on top!

Why is it bizarre?

Some seem to think playing attractive football is important, when actually it should only be about results.

Sport is all about winning, nothing else.

I get where you're coming from, watching us can be a real grind. I know it's hard but if you aren't enjoying it have a bit of a break from it. Try going to watch your local non league team instead.

That's your opinion, to which you are entitled.
However, football is an entertainment business, and winning through attractive football is permitted :D

Its great when we bloody the nose of a top team, as we have done. Its also great when we beat teams at our level, which we have done. But this season most of these teams have moved on and we seem to have regressed. Maybe a few reasons for that. Whatever, its not been enjoyable this season - so far.

Because a one-off result against Liverpool 5 months ago is irrelevant.

Football is entertainment. I'm entertained when we win, but I'm also entertained when we play good football. This season we haven't done either, and personally I haven't enjoyed watching us for that reason. I didn't enjoy the Palace game because we were so desperate for the points that the contest was unenjoyable.

I enjoyed watching us last season when we had a good mixture of good performances and results.

I guess it's what people see as entertaining. I see a side structured in a such a way that every player knows what they are doing, and each man knows when to press and win the ball back, just as entertaining as passing and scoring goals.

We've done that in the past and been incredibly difficult to break down.

If it was just the result you would check the score on ceefax.

But we travel up and down the country hoping to be entertained and a positive result.

I disagree, if it's not enjoyable why bother? People go to football as an escape from the drudgery of the Monday to Friday 9 to 5 life, a bit of entertainment shouldn't be too much to ask.

Don't call it enjoyable scoring early and defending for rest of game hoping to hang on.

I enjoyed the game vs Crystal Palace. They might have had the “better” last hour in sense of play and chances. But we defended fantastically well and never looked like we were going to concede truth be told. I enjoy them types of performances.

I enjoyed the Spurs game as well. We looked the most likely to win just before they scored. We were well in it up until that point and played some good stuff.

I just enjoy football when there’s close games that could go either way and good attacking moves. Games like yesterday are boring from a neutral point, just one way all game. Todays game Chelsea vs Spurs was boring as the quality in the final third was dreadful.

It's not particularly fun to watch at the moment but as I've got the facility to view all our games I can't bring myself to not watch, I mean, it's still BFC innit?

Must admit I did switch off after the 5th goal went in yesterday though, I may be a bit of a glutton for punishment but I'm not a total masochist :)

Yes I enjoy watching us play because I am a Burnley supporter. I love it when we win and am disappointed when we lose. I can watch other games not involving Burnley and sometimes enjoy them but feel no emotional attachment whatsoever. I would rather watch Burnley in any game than watch any other match.

I find the discipline and organisation in our defence enjoyable to watch. This coupled with the in your face high tempo press in midfield and flashes of skill or a well taken goal higher up the pitch is great to watch.

Unfortunately when it goes wrong we end up lumping it forward aimlessly and that becomes a hard watch.

I think as per most on here the lack of progress is the main issue I have. Hopefully one way or another something will change shortly be it playing staff, manager (last choice for me), which league we’re in or board/chairman. We can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

Apart from the first promotion year, I have not found the style of football entertaining. The results have been on the whole amazing, and I get great pleasure in taking points and irritating the big rich clubs.Beating the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool gave me a feeling like I would not get in the Championship, but even on our
second promotion year, too often I was just relieved that
we got the win, and left wondering how we got away with it

We need to mix our defending (normally, not yesterday), with quicker players that can allow us to counter-attack.

The way we know we can defend, mixed with pace would make a huge difference and would be much more entertaining. And I cannot believe that there have been no quick players available at all who could improve our starting 11.

When the Steven Defour and Joey Barton teams played it was some of the best football I’ve seen on The Turf. Without doubt that was down to their inclusion in the team. I know they was both brilliant footballers but surely we should be able to play better football than what we’re witnessing now. We had other great players in those teams I know but does one man really make such a difference.

I think one man can make a difference , but I believe it's due to be able to play a different way and having one person who is an expert at playing a different way and their skill rubs off on other players, even it's just a mental thing giving them more confidence.

Its not great at the moment. Didn’t bother watching yesterday and bet on on 3-0 4-0 and 5-0. The set up is just so predictable. Don’t watch that many games of other teams but just watched Chelsea 0 Spurs 0. Any ten minutes of that game was better than anything we have produced all season.

But there's no debate as we are currently doing neither

Yes winning is all that matters, and the 1-0 grind outs provide that, and can be quite enjoyable.
But even when losing, theres certainly a better way of losing IMO.

Our style means the wins mask the performance, however when we arent winning the style/set up isnt great to watch, but that's been the case for 8 years now, so we all need to accept it.

We’ve certainly gone backwards in the past two seasons. That is the most frustrating. It feels like after 5 years, we’ve gone full circle and we’re back defending under our cross bar for 90 mins.

I appreciate that the 24 pass goal against Everton was a one-off, but at the moment we can’t even string 4 passes together. That’s how far we’ve fallen.

Who is responsible? Dyche? The players? Both?

We miss a Defour or a Barton. We just don’t have technical players in the middle to keep the ball.

The players must be bored s*it less of the football too. Where is the enjoyment for them?

I think some sort of enjoyment will be gained for them by receiving an eye watering pay packet, you go to work to earn money not necessarily to enjoy yourself if you do that's a bonus.

Couldn’t agree more.

Professional football, across all divisions, is garbage without the fans and the atmosphere they create. If this isn’t the wake up call for clubs to realise that the game is nothing without the fans then it’ll never happen.

For what it’s worth I can’t wait for my lad’s grassroots team to get going again next week. It’s more enjoyable on nearly every single level.

The problem is we have had both pleasing on the eye and getting results in our time in the Prem.

When Defour was in the team I think we had the perfect balance but let’s face it we only got him because of his previous injury history and unless we are very lucky are unlikely to get his type of player again unless we get a large investment.

I watched yesterday until the point when Dwight had the ball in final third with a possible run at their defence only to stop turn and pass back for the ball eventually played backwards to be pumped upfield from Bailey. That style of football is hard to watch and it reminded me of our last bad run when we had a throw in level with opposition six yard line only to see ball go backwards for the keeper to punt it.

We have to play with a bit less fear and play a bit more football and mix it up and not just punt it upfront in the hope that Barnes wins a set piece.
