What players should we sign in January
Given the takeover is looking likely what players do you think we should sign?
I’m going to throw a name in the hat.
Phillip Zinckernagel - he is having the season of his life. 16 goals and 18 assists in 34 games for Glimt in the Norwegian league. He’s a right winger and only 25. I would imagine the fee would be comfortably within in our range as well.

Any as long as,
They aren't over 30
They arent injured
They are genuine first team challengers
If I could pick 3 positions it would be
RW
RB
CB to replace the outgoing Tarks whether that's in Jsn or summer, but I'd want him in now and learning "the framework" and as 3rd choice incase JT or BM get injured or suspended.
Then we only really need a couple in the summer then and some of the dead wood can go.

We can choose the best from lower ivisions as well without neglecting foreign available and affordable players .
Re: What players should we sign in January
John Lundstram, out of contract in the summer so should be able to get him for a reasonable fee.
Re: What players should we sign in January
Hoping for someone with potential, resigned to the fact it’s more likely to be a Lennon, or Crouch, or Hart.

We have 4 CM and Benson at the moment, however if Brownhill is to be our 3rd Winger, Cork injured, aswell as Him and Stephens being 32 shortly it could be a great cheap signing with an eye on next season.
Scored same amount of gosls in 1 game v us then our CM combined all season.
Not sure on his other stats mind, but he looked forward thinking against us

Re: What players should we sign in January
Seeing this thread reminded me of a conversation I'm having regularly with a QPR supporting mate. He's continually singing the praises of Bright Osayi-Samuel, and can't believe a Prem club hasn't come in for him yet. He's a very quick and direct winger, and sounds ideal. I've checked match-reports and they often use words like 'impressive', even in defeats.
I think his contract is running out too, so a 'sensible' offer in January might be enough. My mate (and his fellow season ticket holders) all rate him as being much better than Eze who looks a handful playing for Palace.
How do I get this information to the powers that be at Turf Moor?

If the takeover goes through I wouldn't be averse to letting Cork go this summer. With his age now I think we've definetely had his best years, and I wouldn't be surprised if he fancied seeing his career out back down South anyway.MACCA wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:39 amWe have 4 CM and Benson at the moment, however if Brownhill is to be our 3rd Winger, Cork injured, aswell as Him and Stephens being 32 shortly it could be a great cheap signing with an eye on next season.

Re: What players should we sign in January
I've read a bit regarding Benson and the thinking seems to be that we're going to send him out on loan again. This means we're back to 4. Stephens ahead of Cork, for me, for the exit door, so I'd be offering Cork another 12 months. Unless we're suddenly going to be signing two central midfielders, which I can't see.

Whoever the computer says we should sign. Recruitment is an algorithm now

I’d be happy for us to sign nobody if I could never hear the following overused words/terms again:

Re: What players should we sign in January
It depends how much ALK make available for Dyche to spend, if we are scraping the barrel on small fees then

Bright O S isn’t a bad shout, Lolley from Forest, Snodgrass from West Ham.
if we’re feeling a little more ambitious Berghuis from Feyenoord, Trincao loan from Barca, Marcus Edwards from Vitor, Tete from Shakhtar, Ikone at Lille, Castillejo from Milan, Sarr at Watford, Forrest from Celtic.

I’d be very surprised if he got into any side in the Championship regularly, he looked so unfit and over the hill he made Steven Reid look a cracking signing.

Re: What players should we sign in January
Sarr at Watford, the guy who they paid 25m and was linked with Liverpool in a near 40m move ?
Re: What players should we sign in January
It's better for Stephens to sit tight at Burnley on a good wage and then become a free agent rather than sign for a Championship club and take a 50% pay cut. Anyway, there's still time for him to come good and be a useful squad man.
Re: What players should we sign in January
Yes that guy, would probably cost close to £30M but would be an instant starter for years. I don’t take too much interest in random links and rumours, if Liverpool seriously wanted him, he’d be there already.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 3:24 pmSarr at Watford, the guy who they paid 25m and was linked with Liverpool in a near 40m move ?

Re: What players should we sign in January
Rumours are sometimes true.
We just missed out on signing a left back from Hull a few years ago, Silva blocked the agreed sale, then rumours began circulating that Liverpool wanted him.... Turned out to be a good signing for them did Andy Roberts.
Re: What players should we sign in January
Yup, imagine if we snagged him in the January, I think he went to Liverpool in the summer. I’m not unhappy with the way it turned out though because I rate Taylor highly. The one we really did miss out on for whatever reason was Ziyech, hell of a player.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 4:43 pmRumours are sometimes true.

Re: What players should we sign in January
If we still choose to shop in the Championship, PNE have a number of key players (including Pearson, Browne and Davies) OOC this coming summer. They have been offered new deals but haven't signed them yet.
I'm hoping we can get two wingers, a right back and an attacking central midfielder/no 10 to accommodate a potential change in shape/options and add pace and guile as well as numbers/depth.

Re: What players should we sign in January
Yeah he went the following summer.
Taylors been brilliant for us.
If it's a choice between Ajax and Burnley I don't blame him for going to Ajax.
Just need our transfer team to be as adventurous again.
Re: What players should we sign in January
Was it a choice between Burnley and Ajax though? timing is key, we basically had Robertson signed in January apparently, the following summer Liverpool came in.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 5:29 pmYeah he went the following summer.

I don’t know the reason we missed out on Ziyech, I don’t think it was a straight shootout between us and Ajax the moment we came in, Ajax probably missed out on their other targets and came in late to the party. Fast deals can stop that from happening in some cases, like I said though I have no memory of the Ziyech stuff.
Given the European stature of Ajax, it sounds quite stupid but are they really an attractive team compared to the PL? How much pull does the PL have? and what are the monetary gains from PL over Ajax?

It's Ajax, their history is far better than ours and he was part of the team that went far in the CL.KRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 5:37 pmWas it a choice between Burnley and Ajax though? timing is key, we basically had Robertson signed in January apparently, the following summer Liverpool came in.

Financially I think Ajax's wage bill is higher than ours overall, by about £15-20 million so what he earned may not have been much higher but he had that European football experience which was better than he would've got here.
Plus the style of football they play etc.
