New rules for signing new young foreign players
Rules will change with Brexit as follows:
No foreign players under the age of 18
No more than three players aged 18-21 in any window
No foreign players under the age of 18
No more than three players aged 18-21 in any window
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Good - guessing Chelsea and Man City will have a few spare pegs in the Academy changing rooms

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
City have links with several teams in Europe as do United
They will simply buy young talent and install them with feeder clubs for a couple of seasons then fetch them here
What happened to no more than 5 foreign players per team so young English talent can be developed for the National team

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
How many Irish duds have we had to every success?
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
In terms of youth products probably many, although we've not had the best youth set up over the last 20 years. Chris McCann however.
Going back to the Ireland point, the Republic and the UK are what's part of the CTA (Common Travel Area) meaning citizens of either country are not considered 'aliens' in each others territories, and have the rights of citizens (such as voting). This agreement predated the EU and will survive post-Brexit. Therefore, we can sign Irish players post-Brexit.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
I now expect big clubs to set about a campaign for satellite academy sites around the country so that they can hoover up yet more talent - it was a feature of Project Big Profits, the ideal (for them) being that clubs in league 1 and 2 abandon their own academies so that the Premier League no longer has to pay EPPP payments

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
It will also change how some clubs have used partner clubs for foreign players to get them work permits easier. Man U have used Royal Antwerp in the past, placing foreign players with them because it was an easier process to get players work permits that way.
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Does anyone know the intended rule for foreign (EU) players already working here, do they get a pass (grandfather type close if here a certain amount of time) or do they need to apply and have a GBE in place by 1/1/2021 in order to stay and to play?
In this I am asking about the players who can't apply for the settlement status since they can not prove being here in the the last 5 years, they can not all have enough points under the points scheme outlined, can they?
Are there different rules for PL and other leagues
Other sports where players (EU) reside/live here for a certain amount of time. I assume they follow those same rules.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
I don't see how Tony, if players, and it applies to coaches/managers such as Klopp & Pep, etc. then they need a work permit come 1/1/2021 as they can not meet the settlement status, coaches/assistant coaches, support staff will all need to have some form of legal rationale to stay and work in the UK, I had not thought about this previously.
All of them going to the exceptions panel seems to be a big ask when looking at all the people who will/may be trying to stay, not trying to make this a Brexit discussion but football related, must have been a lot of work already done by clubs, I can only assume given where we are now time wise.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Interesting also that if such criteria were applied to non-UK players in the past, the Premier League would have been bereft of players such as N'Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez as they would not have received approval under the rules.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Dont think its as bigger problem as you think for EU citizens curranty residing in the UK Kate
"The basic terms of the Settlement Scheme are: EU citizens and any of their non-EU family members who arrived before 31 December 2020, and have been continuously resident in the UK for five years by the time of their application, will be eligible for settled status enabling them to stay indefinitely."
If you havent been here for 5 years I believe you can get pre settled status instead that allows you to temporarily remain whilst you reach 5 years at which point you will then get settled status

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
But perhaps more young English / British players would have had more opportunity. So not all bad.

Thank you, I knew something had to be out there or virtually every PL club would be in the news for the last few months regarding losing players/staff.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 10:21 pmDont think its as bigger problem as you think for EU citizens curranty residing in the UK Kate

I understood the settlement scheme in general around the 5 year rule (it's is similar to the US, you can't apply for citizenship with the same 5 year/6 month in year)
It was the pre-settled status I was missing in regard to players/managers/staff etc. with less than 5 years.
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
it certainly seems like that for the future, as established foreign players leave and in regard to new/young players arriving. Yet I am sure the top clubs will have work arounds for players to be somewhere prior to meeting the new regulations, I do hope more British and even Irish players get more/better opportunities though.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 10:26 pmBut perhaps more young English / British players would have had more opportunity. Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
It won't make any difference if you're Irish, different rules apply to the Common Travel Area.
I wonder if players will suddenly start finding Irish grandparents like all the Latin American players that used to get a Spanish passport.
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Although on the flip side they may not have chances like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham had to go overseas to play.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 10:26 pmBut perhaps more young English / British players would have had more opportunity. So not all bad.
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
I think it’s about time we found ourselves a feeder club like Chelsea with Vitesse, somewhere to consistently send our young players for experience of course it has to benefit the feeder club, even if it’s an Australian club where Benson, Goodridge, Thomas, Dunne etc could be sent for game time.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Good, means clubs can't sign young foreign lads and label them as homegrown, like Arsenal did with Fabregas.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Yeah that's a poor turn of phrase from me.
It was still a stupid rule that allowed clubs to take the ****.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
It was basically what is allowed as members of the EU and then a player at a club for a period of time becomes home grown. That’s why Chris Wood is listed as a home grown player.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 1:02 pmYeah that's a poor turn of phrase from me.

Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Rules changing here in Ireland Aggi. Eg, UK Driving licences no longer accepted if you’re a resident in Ireland, you have to convert to an Irish licence as one simple example.
Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Yep, I guess there will be some admin changes. Think common travel area is more big picture in right to travel and work. Any plans for you to become officially Irish?dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 11:42 amRules changing here in Ireland Aggi. Re: New rules for signing new young foreign players
Working towards it at the moment. Lots of documents to gather, and also have to surrender passport for up to 3 months, so trying to find that right time. Although also considering the paternal Italian Grandmother route as well.
Spend enough time in airports without queuing in the other passports queue.

Yep. I've gone the Irish route, got it earlier this year.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 12:26 pmWorking towards it at the moment.
