Sir Ray Davies
Possibly one of the best songwriters and musicians that Britain has produced and the front man of the Kinks who one of the greatest groups of my era(For me) ..Ray is still going strong at 74 and writing new stuff throughout these sad times..Great to see him going strong and writing new material.

Re: Sir Ray Davies
Back in 2009 he was living over here in Kinsale and after not gigging for many a year he did a show for his daughters school. It seemed to kick start him again. Wish I’d known about it before the event. I’d have walked there to see him.

Is that the Kinsale near Cork? If so, what a lovely place to live.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 5:07 pmBack in 2009 he was living over here in Kinsale and after not gigging for many a year he did a show for his daughters school. Yes. Fairly local to him would be Donovan and before his death Noel Redding.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Dec 03, 2020 5:09 pmIs that the Kinsale near Cork? If so, what a lovely place to live.
Re: Sir Ray Davies
I like The Kinks.
I’ve always thought that The Beatles/Oasis was very lazy and the similarities between The Kinks/Blur is far greater. Ray and Damons writing was very very similar.

Crikey, Beatles lazy!!! Produced 12 albums between 63-70 (one a double) that helped define the 60's and beyond. Sorry I think your wrong or misguided.

Phew indeed , if memory serves they were just about to break it big in America , and because of a minor criminal felony they had to pull out and the stones replaced them or some such

Re: Sir Ray Davies
A great talent, but, from what I've heard, he was a pain to work with at times. I had a chat with Noel Redding in a bar in Clonakilty a few years back, where he used to play once a week. As he said, a bit of change from life in the Experience.

Loads of obscure but exceptional songs outside the usual 'greatest hits' collections.

Re: Sir Ray Davies
Crikey thought this was another RIP thread, glad to hear Ray's still active, and yes he'd definitely be in the top 10 British musicians of all time.
Tough to split LOLA, Sunday Afternoon & Waterloo Sunset, all 3 are great songs, and unlike some of the older material they stand the test of time.

Re: Sir Ray Davies
What spade, i was just having a little bit of fun with mixing up the songs and didnt expect to get people this excited.
For what its worth I used to go to plenty of 60's and Northern Soul nights when I lived in Moseley in the 90s so I definitely know my Small Faces from my Kinks and from my Kingsmen for that matter.
But if ive managed to entertain you and keep you out of trouble for a short while then its all good PD
