Re: Religious Eleven
What is the only British football team referred to by name in the Bible?
You'll find the answer at Matthew, chapter 12, verse 42.

Nice one!
Re: Religious Eleven
I remember when Burnley's subs bench consisted of Micah Hyde, Paul Scott, Daniel Coyne, Matthew O'Neill, and Joel Pilkington. Four men with books of the Bible named after them (or vice versa) plus one who wrote more of the books than anyone else.

Re: Religious Eleven
I cant see that anybody has nominated (Ian) St John yet.
The joke from about 50 years ago was re a defaced Liverpool church billboard reading "Jesus Saves" which had graffiti added "and St John scores from the rebound".

Re: Religious Eleven
Ah, but " the Saints " is just a nickname. I don't think you'll find a reference to Southampton in the Bible. Similarly, I imagine " hearts " appears in the Bible, but not Heart of Midlothian.claret2018 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 4:52 pm

Queen of the South is in the Bible, if that helps.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 6:25 pmAh, but " the Saints " is just a nickname. I don't think you'll find a reference to Southampton in the Bible. Similarly, I imagine " hearts " appears in the Bible, but not Heart of Midlothian.
And Southampton were originally called St Mary's, and St. Mary is certainly there.

Simon Church
Owen Archdeacon
Gabriel Jesus
Ian St John
Ivor Allchurch
Dixie Dean
Baptiste SantaMaria
I had to cheat and search for the last two
Dickie Deacon and
Giovanni Rector
I thought that St Pauli would be the ideal club.
Can anyone come up with a non-Christian eleven to play against them (or even a satanic team??)
