Re: Beach Boys
I went to see them live at the DeMonfort Hall in Leicester in 1967 when they were in their pomp. I was a big fan but I wasn't expecting their live show to reflect the complex harmonies and music of their albums. I was wrong, they were absolutely fabulous, even performing songs like like Good Vibrations and and God Only Knows just like the recordings. They were on stage for about an hour and a half...absolute magic.

I’m only in my mid-to-late thirties but was fortunate to see them twice at GMex in the very early 90s. Superb harmonies.

Isn’t it great when music can be warmly enjoyed by different generations. Music is one of the few remaining links between young and older generations

I saw him do the Smile album in Liverpool probably around 14 years ago. His backup band carried him through the gig but it was great to see the album performed as intendedFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 8:51 pmBrian Wilson - Our prayer/Gee.

Your selections are very welcome here.
Seen them live twice, in 2008 at The Apollo and in 2017 at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
It was only 2 days after the Manchester Arena attack and it was a strange atmosphere to begin with as there were lots of armed police present.
Onstage Mike Love paid a very emotional tribute to the victims of the attack and the band dedicated this to everyone effected by the atrocity:-
The warmth of the Sun

Some great choices here. I saw them at the Indiana State Fair in the early 80's . My recollection is vague but I think only Mike Love and Al Jardine were in the line-up I saw.
This is my favourite Beach Boys song. Brian Wilson - a flawed genius.

Here's one of many cracking tracks from that album. All quite a departure from the norm.

Re: Beach Boys
Sorry, don't know how to post links. My favourites are,
I just wasn't made for these times and
Time to Get alone.
Hard to choose as so many great songs.
Saw them live 4 times in the 80s and 90s and more recently saw Brian Wilson on the Pet Sounds Tour at Manchester Apollo. An incredible show. The production was amazing. The instrumentals were pretty near perfect and although Brian's voice is obviously fading, the way they merged his vocals with Matt Jardine's (al's son) was just brilliant. Hope he is back next year.

Re: Beach Boys
Always been more of a Brian fan but don’t like the way that Mike was marginalised by the music historians. Whilst Brian is a musical genius in my opinion, Mike Love definitely played his part, certainly in the early years.
Special mention for Carl though. Voice of an angel!

For me probably the best band to come out of America (not including Motown).

Originally by The Ronettes, some would say The Beach Boys version was a better sound...

Re: Beach Boys
The Beach Boys were originally called the Pendletones, an homage to the Pendleton Woolen Mills flannel shirts, a surfer-favored look that was extremely popular at the time (they're popular again today, but expensive).

But which Beach Boys will that be? My guess is that it will just be Mike Love and other musicians. Now if it was Brian Wilson, that would be a different matter.

Re: Beach Boys
If it is called the Beach Boys then it will be Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and band. As he has the rites to the name.
However Brian has also been touring with Al Jardine and Band.
They did have some dates in Manchester and Leeds this summer which got cancelled. I am hoping they may do them this next year. Fingers crossed.

New film out with Brian Wilson featured as never before, Long Promised Road. He’s driven around reminiscing about places, music, his brothers. The preview clips show him almost relaxed and chatty
