Certainly not the player he was, hence why he isnt a regular starter.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:58 amI'm not suggesting we can get him, just saying he would be a brilliant signing. He went to Everton for £40m + £5m add ons, so you guess they would be looking for £20m or above, and he will be on a huge wagegandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:58 amI'm not suggesting we can get him, just saying he would be a brilliant signing. That's a fair assessment. However as i said we haven't got a clue yet who is or isn't in our price reach barring the obvious 50-60m quid footballers. If the player wants game time, and Everton are happy to pay a part of his wages to reduce the wage bill then i don't see any reason why a loan or a permenant transfer couldn't happen.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:49 pmHe went to Everton for £40m + £5m add ons, so you guess they would be looking for £20m or above, and he will be on a huge wage

Pre takeover, i would have had the same opinion however so much is unknown. I'm not expectging a signing like this let me be clear on that i'm just saying he would make a brilliant signing and with the finances unknown, we are unsure if he is beyond our reach or not.

I think we have been slow to exploit the loan market. Ones that got away recently include Walcott (playing brilliantly for Saints), Clyne -RB at Palace, Ross Berkeley at Villa , and Harry Wilson is out on loan too to either Cardiff or Swanseau, just to mention four. It could tie us down until May, when we will know our own fate, plus who is being offered new contractsgandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:54 pmThat's a fair assessment. I havn't taken much notice of the takeover, but looking at it pace has done a Burnley like transfer deal to purchase the club....im not holding my breath that we are about to start shelling out 40million+ on the likes of Gylfi!gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 3:08 pmPre takeover, i would have had the same opinion however so much is unknown. It appears even with the new takeover that we are still going to be shopping in the bargain basement. So suggesting players like Sigurdsson is a bit out there. I believe his wages are over 100k a week.

He wouldn't cost 40m plus, as stated further up, his value will have diminished. I wouldn't want us to spend 40m+ on him, however if he is available in the 20m bracket, it's a good deal.

the only way you would get a player like Sigurdsson is pay him double what the rest of our lads are on, sure fire why to **** the club

I think we should look at another Icelander. 23yr old Albert Gudmundsson. Versatile right footed winger or forward who like his namesake did, plays currently at Alkmaar.
Looked good versus England.
Decent stats so far this season, even done well in Europe. Shouldn't cost too much in wages or fees. Contract expires next year.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Sigurdsson has appeared 15 times already this season and has even captained the side in one game (maybe cup)
On that basis can't see him going anywhere unless Everton bring others in
Other than Kenny could only see the likes of Delph, Tosun and Bolasie leaving this month

Whilst he may have left the board I hear Clive Holt is being subcontracted to oil and service the fax machine towards the end of the month. Always good to have a back up plan.

I still think this transfer window will be very poor and can't see us doing much business even with new owners, I can't see us bringing in a winger when we have x3 already and Pieters and Jay Rod who could cover, I've got a feeling we will make do and mend this window and wait until the summer, there is a lot of players out of contract and one or two will be sold if the right bid is made.
The lad from Everton could come in or similar type of player if available and he will have to wait until He is Dyche fit and for an injury or suspension to Lowton to play, they will be lucky to make the team this season and they will be Bardsley's replacement after he is probably let go in the summer.
I can see very little happening until the summer and by then we will need to bring in five or six.

Given injuries that all our current wide men have recently gone through I would have thought that would be on top priority position for an additional signing
But, like yourself, I don't expect much else (Kenny maybe)

Why??
Why do you think it will be a poor window?
Why do you think there will be very little happening?
We have new owners who have given a clear indication that funds are available to strengthen, and we're only in mid January.

I would be incredibly disappointed if we didn’t sign at least 2 players this window. Our squad desperately needs new players to just push the starting eleven a bit harder.

I think that even with the new regime, we may be somewhat underwhelmed with our January activity and the reason for this will be that yes, some very good, bargain priced players may be available and may now be within our price range (Sigurdsson POSSIBLY being an example) but signing them would blow our wage structure wide open and cause far too many ripples through the established and currently happy squad members. If our wage structure is going to change upwardly, then it will need to be carefully managed and suddenly signing someone and matching their ridiculous/ludicrous salary at a previous club, would cause huge short term problems I'd suggest.

I think an expectation has been set by our Chief Exec Mr Hart, in the video interview several months ago saying that their will be incomings and support to SD in January, and more recently from Alan Pace. I am keeping an open mind-any incomings however may have a bearing on who is leaving from the bunch of players OOC in June/JulyNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:42 pmI would be incredibly disappointed if we didn’t sign at least 2 players this window. I don't need to read it again, I'm not illiterate.
I said nothing about wingers.
And yes, of course the new owners said that money was available...are you seriously suggesting that the strategy is to wait for the summer window? If so I'd not like to be around when they tell Dyche.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
When Neil Hart said that, he appeared very confident; my interpretation was that he either knew we'd be in a much better financial position or we were close to securing targets that wouldn't join until January for whatever reason. It doesn't feel now, two weeks in to the window, that we're either close with anyone or in a much better position to compete financially.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:37 pmI think an expectation has been set by our Chief Exec Mr Hart, in the video interview several months ago saying that their will be incomings and support to SD in January, and more recently from Alan Pace. I'd hoped we might be in a position where we are able to sign one or two of the top Championship players that could come straight in and improve us, but the only links are with younger players with limited experience, so I'm coming around to the idea that we're probably going to be looking at signings with potential rather than those able to immediately impact the team.
Hopefully we'll look at a loan signing or two that might be able to offer that support.

In all fairness, that is definitely an area we need to be better at so I'd be happy if we targeted young players with sell-on potential.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 3:13 pmI'd hoped we might be in a position where we are able to sign one or two of the top Championship players that could come straight in and improve us, but the only links are with younger players with limited experience, so I'm coming around to the idea that we're probably going to be looking at signings with potential rather than those able to immediately impact the team.
During the last window, however, Dyche himself spoke about signing players that are a bit more rounded and ready to impact the first team immediately.
So I think it would be fair to assume there might be a bit of both.

Source?
Apologies I’ve found it now, such a shame that he didn’t get a good run of games with us or indeed my time from the bench, however if he’s not deemed good enough by the manager then it’s best to offload him and replace him with someone who will be utilised more frequently and/or is of a better standard.
If we sell let’s hope the fee is decent and re-invested pronto

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
There was certainly a bit of noise earlier from various sources saying funds would be available and an early signing would signal the new boards intentions. There was, probably, targets identified ( Jones ) and a small kitty put to one side in order to facilitate the early signing all for the chairman to proudly say " there we go ". However, we are now two weeks into the transfer window and reality has probably kicked in.
After speaking to Dyche about " the list " A Pace has now discovered that the kitty is not big enough, the agents are touting their player else where, PL clubs don't want to sell to rivals, Championship clubs don't want their prized asset to leave mid season, clubs slightly above ourselves are putting pressure on agents and CEO's not to sell their player to Burnley, SD's targets do not match AP's criteria ( but that would be quite relaxed this window i would imagine ) and the list of add on's that are now included in most transfers negate the chance of a quick signing.
Welcome to Burnley's Bi-annual nail biting fest.

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest.
Said for a while, the failure of the last few windows and any real plan will effect us for a season or 2, even if we remained in the premier league.

Sadly I can see Deeney joining on loan until May, with a view to buy. It means a "cheap forward" just like Crouch was and of course Deeney and SD go back a long way. Hope we get better
