I don’t know how people are comparing Jimmy Dunne to Collins in terms of transfer fee.
At 19 Dunne was playing national league football. Plus Dunne only has 6 months on his contract.
Collins has played his full career at championship level and has five years left on his contract.

That's assuming that the only reason he wants to leave is the money. His interviews (and obviously some may take them with a pinch of salt) certainly suggest it is more down to advancing his career and, to do that, he won't want to be spending another year of his prime at Burnley. In particular, going in 2022 means it's a couple of years until the next international tournament. Going this summer gives him a good chance of getting into the world cup squad.NewClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 11:29 amAll good points, re: (2), I'll be shocked if Tarks goes in summer. It requires: (a) someone willing to pay what would be an attractive price to us after the Brentford sell-on and comparative to the PL income we retain by staying up - by summer, after 18m of no matchday income, I can't imagine may clubs will be able to do that, I think Jan is shaping up how next summer will too; and (b) Tarks himself to want to go and give up the once in a lifetime signing-on fee that he'd otherwise get.
I'd say he is 90% sure to leave in summer 2022, with the 10% only being whether ALK would be willing to pay him the signing on fee he would get elsewhere. That might set an ugly precedent and destabilise things (although I might be willing to risk that given his overall importance).
But this all makes the Collins deal seem more sensible. He can also play RB, so option there to blood him next to Tarks for a season, learn from him in training, etc. We're also due £8m from Gibson so if we got Collins for anywhere near that amount, as a direct swap 10 years younger, that's not bad business.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Four and a half million seems a low offer ( not knowing the details ) but I would prefer that to us offering ten million straight of the bat, and stoke turning round and saying we want fifteen!

No, it suggests that that is what Spurs are willing to risk. They can afford to, apparently, even though they get cheap loans from BoE to cover it.
If it turns out Rodon doesn't get the game time, or they can't get the money back for him, it will have been a waste of 12mill.
If you continue to look at transfers through the eyes of the rest of the league, you will continue to be disappointed.
Using your illogical argument, Burnley should pay over the top valuations, just because other teams are prepared to. It might make sense to you, but it doesn't to me.

That’s a very good point about the WC. And yes, it does assume that money is a key motivator. I suppose if I were in his shoes, I’d question whether a possible place in the WC squad (unlikely starting XI), is worth forgoing £Xm he’d make as a free agent.aggi wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 12:44 pmThat's assuming that the only reason he wants to leave is the money. Whether he makes the Euros squad may also play a role. I personally think it’s reaching the point where Southgate cannot ignore his form.

I can't seem to find anything that states categorically that Stokes valuation of Collins is £10m.
Unless you're assuming that Nixon is bang on the money(yeah right) and you're using his assessment as a stick to beat the club with.

I think Armstrong is a good player for last couple of seasons he's been playing in the wrong position now he's playing as a striker he's showing his talent. I'd like us to sign him but I dont think we will have a chance . If anywhere he may even end up back at Newcastle not in this window

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
King and Collins would be an excellent window, 2 players who should slide straight into our first team lineup. I actually think Collins would suit Dyche, im surprised Dyche hasn't gone the Pulis route of central defenders turned fullbacks. Everytime Iv seen Collins play has been at right back.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I can see the reasoning behind King as opposed to someone such as Armstrong. King has and can play wide as well as up front. Filling in the necessary gaps now. I can see the logic in King and McNeil in a 4-4-2 or variations on a 4-5-1.
Can't comment on the Stoke player but if other PL clubs are monitoring him he has to be an upgrade on Worrall.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Why do transfers have to take so long. If Dyche has a budget set by the Chairman, the manager will have set out the positions he wants signings for and his transfer fee limit.
Someone would then telephone their Club. Ask if they will sell their player, then try and agree the transfer fee. If a price cannot be reached within a couple of days, then close negotiations and move for another target. Only if they're not far from a deal, should we/they continue talking. If the sale is agreed, contact the player and his agent and try and agree wages, then conclude the transfer. We might then have a current player we could sell, to cover part of the transfer fee.
Talks appear to drag on, as though, we/they have spent 10 minutes discussing a fee, which we can't agree on, until it's been put to someone else to consider. But that will be the day after. Then another day it gets discussed and passed above again to consider.
On paper, or by video link, negotiations for buying a player could and should hopefully be concluded in a couple of days, before registering the transfer.
As it's getting closer to deadline day the Club has a lot less time to conclude another option.

Nothing wrong with being cautious and starting with a low bid. I'd rather that than pay £23.5m for a player like Rhian Brewster, he's not made much of a difference to Sheff Utd.

Your argument seems to be lets keep burying our head in the sand and putting in low bids that have no chance of being accepted.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 1:26 pmNo, it suggests that that is what Spurs are willing to risk. Why this antipathy towards Jimmy Dunne
Get him signing a new contract loan him to PNE then see where he gets to.
I think hes got potential and weve given too many potential younger players away in the past and as I stated before I wouldn't touch King

Negotiable yes, not just pay what some journo has said they want.
Leeds didn't want to sell Charlie Taylor, once player says he wants the move things become easier and cheaper.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Nobody has suggested pay what some journo said they want. What I am saying is if we want a player that the club ideally wan't to keep hold of, the asking price usually goes up because the club will want to make it worth their while negotiating, not to mention the flack they may receive from their fan base by flogging a player on the cheap. You pay the premium to get that player. With Kenny, Everton wan't to get rid, he isn't playing anyway so it will be a case of getting what they can. The ball is in the selling clubs court with regards to being reasonable on transfer fees.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:50 pmNegotiable yes, not just pay what some journo has said they want.

Plus Kenny has played about 70 professional games and is approaching 24. Collins is 19 has played 40 professional games and has captained his team.
You can see why Collins value would be higher.

Age and potential have a lot to do with it. Forfana of Leicester is 20, played less than 40 games for St Etienne and will cost Leicester up to £36m. He went straight into the team and is now undroppable. Ask any neutral pundit who the stand out young defenders are in the PL and he will certainly be one of those names. If he avoids injury he will give Leicester value for money. By comparison Aka at Man City cost £40m-I know who I would rather haveNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:54 pmIt’s all about demand. No one wants Kenny. 24 in March is 23, in the same way 20 in April is 19.
