January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome

Post by clarethomer » Fri Dec 11, 2020 9:20 pm

We are a few weeks away from the window opening.

I have seen from the takeover thread that Phil Jones is suggested to be a claret.

I know there have been rumours about young 20 year old striker - Tyrese Campbell from Stoke.

In hope we can have a thread that keeps all transfer links, rumours and discussions together, it will reduce other threads being bloated.

Are there any other rumours/links?

At least you can't be disappointed.

There appears to be confidence in signings though so you could be pleasantly surprised.

The Jones story in the last window seemed to part of a deal with Tarkowski going the other way. Don’t know how much there was in it but that window turned into a farce because of the stand off between chairman and manager.

I believe there will be signings in January.

Stephens should be fit soon, he’ll be like a new signing. We just need a couple of young players to add a bit of depth to the U23’s.

Just being realistic mate based on the last 3/4/5 transfer windows if not longer. We've been in far better positions than this and not strengthend, for example when we were in the Europa league. Of course I hope I'm wrong though Mr TT 👍

Do you think Tarks will leave this window?

Another bit of the argument. As a club we are going to have to find the best time to sell him. I don’t think we will get much option with summer the most likely.

If he signs a new deal, he thinks we’ve a chance of competing a little more, or the ‘money not being the issue’ was ********.

He’ll be off, surely? And good luck to him, if that’s the case.

I think he's definetely going. If he's got any ambition to progress his career realistically it's time for him to move on.

I don't think he has any intention of signing a new deal so it is over to the club now to try and sell him at the best possible time.

I’d keep Tarkowski until his contract ends. But if we sign a reasonable replacement. And if fit I’d say Jones is that. You’d have to consider an offer of 20m plus.

It’s pointless keeping players who don’t want to be here, I daresay he’d be professional enough to see the job out, it’s bad business practice any other way, cash in let him go & sign somebody else relatively decent.

Obviously we don't know the exact situation but his recent interview told us plenty. You are right, we have to find the right time for him to go in our favour. We don't want another Ings, Arfield, Boyd or Hendrick. Too many people have been allowed to walk for nothing. I know there is nothing you can do about that if the player decides he's going to see his contract out but we have to do what we can to ensure that doesn't happen with Tarkowski.

There was a time when a three year contract sounded lengthy but now, one year in, you are immediately in that predicament.

I’d guess, from what Tarkowski said, that he’s unlikely to want to run down his contract. More likely to want out at the next sign of an appealing opportunity.

You’re right though, we need to get ourselves into a position where we are able to move players on, for a fee, that look as though they’ll be unwilling to commit past their contract period.

He won’t be signing for West Brom, Fulham or Sheffield United, trust me on that score, there’s nobody else to be bothered about & even if there was he would’ve be signing for them. He wants out he wants to be earning more money ASAP with a signing on fee & the club will want a fee rather than let him leave for nothing. Like other posters have said it’s just the timing & replacement to be considering now.

There are plenty of players who would improve the squad but without the takeover I fear no signings will be possible and selling Tarks anyway a very bad idea.

Phil Jones

Post by CardiffClaret » Sat Dec 12, 2020 9:22 am

It is a rather surprising (but true) fact that if we were to sign Phil Jones in January, it would actually reduce the average age of the first team squad.

In what sense? Playing ability or personality? Jones is a far better player than both of them.

If we do sign him, you will see just what a good player he is.

Ability wise, a cut above what we currently have.

Fitness the only issue for me.

I'll give this thread a few hours. We already know how it will go. Some people would prefer Jones over Long or Dunne. Some won't. Some of those who don't want him will be shouting down those who do. End of thread and good night. :)

At 23 Dunne is late on the scene.

At 28 Jones should be at his peak as a player.

Why do some people think Kevin Long and Jimmy Dunne are better than a guy who has 27 England caps and is still only 28? Its bizarre.

I don’t know how I feel about it personally but was just shocked at how young he is. Same age as Tarkowski and 10 times the number of England caps. Granted he seems to be on a downward trajectory whereas Tarkowski is on an upwards trajectory, but I doubt any West Ham fans will be complaining Tarkowski is too old if they sign him.

Phil Jones has shown nothing over the last 3 seasons, to suggest he would do a job for us.
It would be a massive gamble, one that MIGHT pay off, but BFC isn't in a position to take gambles on players. Not for what PJ would cost, and or want in wages. I just think Utd's defence is awful, and he can't get in it.
With Long, Dunne and Thomas showing promise, and all already on the books, we don't need a centre half, unless they are guaranteed to be of a quality to replace Tarks. Heaven forbid.

I would sooner see Dyche play center half than Jones hes a complete busted flush and like someone just mentioned a former bastardo......no no no
And we’ve never had any former ******* players come in and do a good job for us...

Kevin Long is 30 years old. He’s never been a regular. He has never been good enough and never will be good enough.

A fit Phil Jones, in our ystem, would be an excellent addition. As I said yesterday, if Ben Mee can be comfortable in our system I’m certain Phil Jones can.
