I could not believe the clamour on this board for us to sign Charlie back in the summer of 2019 at the time he'd gone to West Brom. He'd started only 34 games for Southampton in three and a half years and made a further 37 sub appearances. The goals have dried up too. He's scored 26 league goals in the last five years and nine of those have been penalties.

His goalscoring at Burnley was outstanding, even better for QPR, but for someone just a few days older than Jay Rod he looks knackered now. What I've never been able to work out though was that we got better results in his two years at Burnley when he was out of the team than when he was in the team, suggesting we played to him too much.
The problem when we had Austin was that we were very reliant on him. Like we can be now on Dwight.

Losing Austin was a blessing none of us saw. We were a much better and more dynamic team without him. And thats despite the fact I think he is the best finisher we have had in years.

As I’ve posted, publicly criticising your bosses is never the best option if you want to keep your job.
This was the worse thing about our saga. Seemingly he didnt want to keep it?

The disappointing thing was that our strength is unity and team spirit.

Hopefuly come February it will be a distant memory.

Good job Garlick is too tight to pay compensation.
Or perhaps, unlike other chairmen, he realises that sacking a manager isn't a clever thing to do if you want to stay in the Premier league no matter how often SD moans about the current situation.

Who knows what Garlick is thinking?

But it would have been a silly business decision to sack him just before he's selling up. Then it's the new owners problem with any extra financial output not his responsibility.

I've just heard Talksport call Bilic a top class manager....

I know they like to talk rubbish at times but that's pushing it even for them

I hold Bilic in the highest regard, he was dealt a poor hand at West Ham when they were in turmoil, He's shown he's a good manager by getting West Brom promoted and to be sacked in full glare of the media shows the quality of boss he worked under.

Going off topic slightly and out of interest, when Dyche had the falling out do with Garlick, was there a good job opportunity coming up at or around the same time at any other club ?

I think the Sheffield Wednesday job might be up for grabs imminently, pulis is desperate for a win they’ve got a home game against Coventry Saturday & lost to fellow strugglers forest last night.

That’s bad news for us I can’t see them being relegated now.

My thoughts too. Can't stand Allardyce, really, really can't stand him but he is a highly effective relegation-preventer

Or is he a busted flush as Tony Pulis is proving at Boro and now Sheffield Wednesday?

Interesting to see what the players think too, I imagine Bilic was a popular manager in the dressing room.

The odds haven't shifted much. I think it could be a job too big even for BFS.

It is a concern for us. I think we will need to reign in BHA . Especially as Fulham are looking much better.

I switched over from watching the amazon pre-show because the only person on there worth listening to is Dion Dublin!

Don’t be daft, you really think he would have agreed without reassurances, he will get the chance to bring people in & change things. there’s only a 2 pt gap & plenty of time you only need to finish 4th from bottom job done for him.

I suppose it was Charlie or nothing when he played. The partnership that followed was unbelievable!

The bottom line is that we need to get 36 points or thereabouts, rather than worry about any so called rivals.

Then we are safe for another season.

Basically another 9 wins required.

How does this clown pass a fit and proper person test or does it not apply to disgraced and sacked ex England managers?

Havnt read full thread but very odd to see Bilic so enthusiastic during the match at Man City and they did well to then get sacked. Clearly if they had won then he still would have been sacked. This might highlight to other managers including ours how the grass isn’t always greener at other clubs.

I think it’s more because there’s no such thing as a fit and proper person test.

The Telegraph has a piece today (headed "Big Sam is yesterday's man... this is a desperate appointment by West Brom").
One sobering sentence reads:

" Barring 2011, every year since 2005 at some point in the season, a top tier club in England has appointed one of the following managers: Alan Pardew, Mark Hughes, Harry Redknapp, Neil Warnock, Tony Pulis or Sam Allardyce."

Maybe still hope for "Arry somewhere this season.
