Someone needs to decide, if you are suggesting “why should referees have the discretion to end games early” it would assist your reasoning to offer an alternative suggestion, eg linesmen, fourth official, the game was done & dusted & I recognise that’s not the point, at least 4 mins should have been played a extra 3, I’m asking who else but the referee do you deem fit & proper to determine any additional minutes that need to be played out after the full 90? We have hypothetically reached the point now where the referees powers don’t include that judgement call.
What I’m saying, and I think I’ve said it pretty clearly, is that referees should add the correct amount of additional time to a game regardless of the score line.

Paul Merson seems to be turning into Ray Winstone.

Watching Everton v Arsenal...........mind numbing! Side to side, then back.......repeat ad nauseam.
Hope we never play like this.

How on earth has Ceballos got away with that? A clear leading with the studs in a stamping motion and caught the Everton player on the back of the calf. Seemingly not even looked at by VAR. Remarkable.

Trying to get my head round this. A team is 7 nil up and people criticise the referee because he hasn't added on injury time down to a fine degree.

It's not just that it is the blatant cheating and acting too. Just as Elneny fell over for no reason after pushing Tarks in the face Ceballos reacted like Mina had kicked out at him...falling over with a screwed up face holding his hip. When he realised nothing was coming of it he just got up with nothing wrong. A team full of grade A b***ends.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to get Wenger back. Would give them some stability for a couple of seasons as Arteta clearly isnt the right manager for them.

Why are you following me around this forum attempting (very poorly) to belittle me? This is the third thread (to my knowledge) in the past couple of days where you've done this. As I'm sure you're aware, the site editor has urged posters to show some decency.Yet you're trying your hardest to drag threads like this into the gutter due to some weird grudge you hold against me because of my comments relating to your hero, Captain Tom. I'm not going to be dragged down to your level so you're wasting your time.

How about actually engaging in a discussion like pretty much everyone else on here seems capable of...do you think that a referee should cut a game short if one team is winning by a substantial margin, and if so, why?

No sendings off for the Gunners yet- doing well for them. A couple of yellows for defenders though - so still every chance.

Pickford makes another monumental cock-up but gets away with it.

At one time there was a suggestion he could become a world class keeper.

No, a referee blowing early with a side 7 nil up is unlikely to affect any final standings in the end of season tables.

It’s all good & well suggesting something should happen I specifically asked for an alternative suggestion to support the reasoning, if you take away that responsibility away from the referee somebody else has to step in & make the decision, the managers can’t do the referee clearly isn’t capable or to be precise shouldn’t have the discretion, needless to say I won’t be holding my breath!

Except perhaps goal difference? If you want to maintain an integrity to a league you play every game by the rules and that includes playing the correct time. The scoreline is irrelevant.

So because it's unlikely that it may affect the league standings that's ok? As I posted above, teams have won championships and been relegated by goal difference so it's perfectly feasible.

Maybe refs shouldn't award penalties to teams once they're a few goals up as well. After all, it's unlikely to affect any final standings.

Nobody is suggesting taking any responsibility away from the referee. I have suggested that refs should play the correct amount of injury time regardless of the scoreline. Not difficult to grasp, surely?

Yes I have it was indirectly connected to the issue you quoted initially, I actually agree with his point the correct time should be played after the 90 minutes but that doesn’t answer my question if the referee doesn’t have the discretion who else can be trusted??? It’s a good job Xmas is around the corner that will be coming first.

Nobody should have the discretion to cut a match short because one team is winning by a large margin.

The game should be played to the EXACT time. So much can happen in the final minutes - goals, penalties sendings off and injuries. All of which could have an impact not only on goal difference but in the up-coming games.

For instance if we were to lose Ben Mee within the correct extra playtime it would be unfortunate but part and parcel of the game. Similarly the ref may have saved Palace from fielding an ongoing weakened team if Zaha had picked up an injury in the EXACT extra time.

Yes we do , the worry is that Newcastle are inconsistent rather than relegation material. Any result that keeps Fulham in the bottom 3 has to be the aim for me
