I might be wrong but isn’t there a bit of mutual affection for each other’s teams due to Michelin’s historic presence in Burnley and Wolverhampton?

Quite a lot common sense talked on there, which is good to see for a football message board.

Some decent posts, though still a few tired ones mainly re race. MoxleyWolf needs to learn how football finances work. Also somewhat surprising qualifying for Europe isn’t considered an impressive achievement. What are they expecting from us, a title challenge?!

Re: Wolves Forum
Some reasoned comments on there. Wolves seem to be one of those clubs who have fans that can understand our club. It probably helps that they have been down at the bottom with us not that long ago and have fans who remember those days, and that before their cash injection they weren't too dissimilar to us
Much prefer fans like those than the likes of Arsenal and Man U who don't understand what it means to truly 'support' a club

Re: Wolves Forum
So many incorrect facts, one states (correctly) that our wages are 82.5m, then changes it to 35m, stating wolves are 55m, no idea how much we have spent on the academy, (going to cat 1), and the training ground.

Re: Wolves Forum
Indeed. To be fair though, a number of them seemed to appreciate the relative wealth of our (current) owners and the limitations that brings.
As for the criticisms of our style of play, some of it is fair, but I would hardly call Wolves' style easy on the eye, particularly when you compare relative spend. Despite different systems/formations, I don't think we're radically different in terms of keeping it solid at the back and playing cautiously, it's just that Wolves have quicker, more dynamic players on the break, which is what lots of £££ (and a useful relationship with Jorge Mendes) can bring you.

Re: Wolves Forum
Really interesting read and very sensible comments. Perhaps they like us dropping to the old division 4 then playing in the Sherpa van final has garnered the mutual respect. That said some really old style fighting took place with their supporters in the bad old days.

That Sherpa final was great. Few pints at The Globe with a good mix of fans up for a good day out
Re: Wolves Forum
Like us, Wolves are a proper club.
My Dad, Uncle, and Grandad are Wolves fans and the three of them would go to the Wolves games in the 70’s and take the match photo’s. My Grandad would have a few beers and kip on the backseat whilst my Dad who was 15/16 would drive.
I just hope the money won’t change the tradition and fan base too much.
Re: Wolves Forum
Just had a quick read. Fair play to 95% of the comments. Compare and contrast to Arsenal. Maybe because Wolves have been down there.

Re: Wolves Forum
People forget Burnley and Wolves have mirrored each other for forty years plus. Even before the Burnley /Spurs rivalry of the 60’s was the Burnley/Wolves rivalry of the fifties. If Wolves and Burnley cannot see eye to eye, we’ve no chance.
Have several Wolves supporting friends, some made at the Sherpa Van weekend in London. Even stranger when I was seven and my dad could not get a Burnley kit (we were on the point of changes to the claret and blue only V Umbro shirts) my Dad bought me a Wolves kit. They have ever since been a club I share a soft spot for.... despite the Dudley accent

Re: Wolves Forum
I think it was our first season in the premier league, we played Wolves away on a wintery Sunday.
Pal of mine had some corporate tickets for of us, I was the only Claret.
Pre-match during the meal the Steve Bull comes out as the speaker and 99% of the room are wetting themselves for pictures, autographs etc. The compere calms everyone down and says that Steve will visit every table after his speech.
So he starts his speech about how special the game was against us at Wembley, how Wolves would always win that game....
10mins later he does his table visits and our table is first...
He comes over expecting a heros welcome, asks who want the first picture. Quite calmly I tell him no thanks. He leans forward to sign my programme as my pal slides it away from him and tells him we are fine.
Looking quite puzzled and a little of his pride dented he asks if we have any questions, my Barnsley pal replies and asks him if there are any more bread rolls. Thinking he misheard he asks again and my other Sunderland pal says, we could do with 4 more bread rolls and a few pints.
I have never seen a more dejected man in my life as we walked away.

Re: Wolves Forum
That SVT final was a great day, despite the result, that day showed how much potential both clubs had, and they've finally realised all that untapped potential.bfcjg wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 9:08 pmReally interesting read and very sensible comments. Yes I suspect having gone through the same journey we've endured, many of the older Wolves fans will appreciate their recent success much more than they might have done in the past, they've always been a traditionally big club, and just like us they were a founding football league member, so they can hardly be accused of being fair weather fans.

Re: Wolves Forum
Can recall a dodgy walk back to the train station after losing to them in the 70s at their place.. (When we went down). The police escort disappeared and the bricks started falling!!
But other than that, I've always liked playing Wolves, though we did have a bad spell trying to beat them.
That day out in '88, with two great old clubs packing Wembley out was superb. Great weekend with numerous fans of both clubs.

Re: Wolves Forum
Michelin have never had a manufacturing presence on Wolverhampton. The head office and main site was in Stoke, next to the old ground. At its peak 18000 people were employed there. As stated above them was a lot of rivalry and no love lost during the inter factory football and rugby challenges!Cheshireclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 8:42 pmI might be wrong but isn’t there a bit of mutual affection for each other’s teams due to Michelin’s historic presence in Burnley and Wolverhampton?

Re: Wolves Forum
Some well informed and realistic posts on there regarding us and our position, particularly financially, but also the same old lazy, media myth guff about us never signing black players when anyone who knows owt about football knows the list is actually endless. Some seem to stupidly think we're banking £gazillions every year or even that the chairman is lining his pockets ffs, when the more sensible posters know full well that without their mega rich backers they'd probably be at least one division below where they are now.
Well done to clarets4me for putting them straight on one or two issues!

We'd taken a big following that day. Always liked that big terrace behind the goal there.
Pretty sure, looking back, it's why the police disappeared when we got to that tunnel/flyover.

A lot of mentions of Michelin, but the major connection for Colne was John Cottons. The car and underfelt manufacturers had a major plant in Tipton, and workers often traversed between the two. Worked down there for a while myself in the mid 90’s.
