Do we have a specialist attacking coach?

Post by Mala591 » Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:43 am

I assume that SD has major input into our defensive tactics but do we have a specialist attacking coach?

If yes who is it, if no should we recruit one to a newly created position?

Mentioned this a long Time ago.....Robbie Blake. I think Teddy sheringham had the role somewhere. Not sure if it proved successful though.

The signing of Crouch and the refusal to play Vydra despite us being the lowest scorers in the 4 divisions sums up our disregard for the attacking side of the game, that said it keeps us up.

I've often wondered that. Perhaps Mr Shearer would help us out, he could call in at Gawthorpe on his way back from the Manchester studios :D

I love threads like this.

I love it when folk assume a good player ie Shearer/Blake, will make a good coach. It's often the opposite. Billy Mercer was a bog standard keeper but appears to be an outstanding coach. This is elite level sport where little if anything is left to chance.

My favourite ever suggestion of this type, bearing in mind sports science etc was when someone on here (the old board) seriously suggested Chris Eagles "did some leg weights" to increase his shooting power. Brilliant stuff.

I would imagine it's a bog standard bus we have rather than a special coach

The really talented people, whom everything is so natural and easy to them, can't understand why it's not easy to everyone.

That's why they struggle to coach.

Hence why some of the best managers we've seen in England have been bog standard players.

Fergie, Wenger, Jose.

It's not a bog standard bus though

Ours has 7 gears - one forward, 3 neutral and 3 reverse 8-)
