Re: Benson
Playing out of position, pushed on early as a substitute as we reshuffled, out on the left, out on the right but what a good job he did for us tonight. He will have learned a hell of a lot from that.

Re: Benson
I didn’t compare their attributes, I compared the way that they were both moved out to the right side of midfield, both of who were un natural in that position, I’m now certain one of us requires a lie down and I don’t think it’s me.Giftonsnoidea wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:28 pmYou know nothing about football if your comparing a lad like Benson to hendrick who is a full international, I’d say you are deluded and wrong, put as many smileys as you want , Ronaldo must be like a god to you, no?
And for the record I’m a Messi kind of man.

He was better tonight and put in a good cross that took a deflection and won a corner. Still a worry though.

Give the lad a break. We've seen a few over the years absolutely battered for not being quite ready.

Did very well tonight in a hard fought game. Inexperience showed a time or two but he’s learning his craft and this game time will give him confidence to push on. Maybe not PL quality, but can do a job for sure. I like him, I have a feeling he will come through for us.

Personally, once we've finally got everyone fit, I think he'd benefit from a loan spell in the championship.

Don’t think he played particularly well, nor would I expect him to in a tough game out of position.
What he did do was work incredibly hard and help keep the shape which we all know is massively important to us as a team.

I don’t really understand how anyone can complain about Bensons performance. It was no worst than any of Hendricks performances there last season.
Difficult to criticise the lad when our record signing was tripping over his own feet

Obviously needs to bulk up physically, but looks neat and tidy and doesn't hide. He wants the ball which a few of our players don't always.
Looks like he could be a decent attacking midfielder in a 3 midfield. But obviously we don't play that way

Re: Benson
Our fans spent years nailing Scott Arfield and Jeff Hendrick (both international footballers) for being below par being asked to play on the right of midfield when they’re centre midfielders. No surprise in the slightest to see a young kid in his 4th Prem game being slated for the same reason. He was neat and tidy when he could be, difficult game for him.

Played totally out of position for the second game in a row and the game passed him by. Don’t understand why we didn’t include a winger from the under 23’s who could have done that role tonight instead of having two keepers on the bench again.

I’ll make a prediction, Hendrick has played over 100 Premier League games, Benson will be lucky to play 20.
That doesn’t make him a bad player, he’s just no up to this level.

We don't really have one. Max Thompson plays right wing for U23s, he is a forwardSteve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:00 pmPlayed totally out of position for the second game in a row and the game passed him by. the left winger I have seen is 17 year old Owen Dodgson, who also plays left wing back.

I suspect because Dyche trusts him to do the defensive side of the role more than a winger from the U23’s.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:00 pmPlayed totally out of position for the second game in a row and the game passed him by. He was defensively very disciplined tonight. I watched him closely and he was constantly looking over his shoulder at the overlapping player, running back to get in shape, doubling up with Lowton. Got caught once or twice, no doubt, but as CT said, will have learned a lot from tonight.

I suspect giving away a penalty with your first touch v Wolves is still on the young mans mind.I think Stephens in his few minutes once again showed his experience, and will see himself unlucky not to come on when Taylor got injured

For what it's worth, I thought the tactics were pretty good tonight, we've given away possession to much better sides than Sheff Utd and shut them out.

Re: Benson
He shouldn’t be anywhere near the first eleven but hes shown enough in the time that he has been to suggest that he has a decent career ahead of him.
It says more for our lack of recruitment that he’s in and around the first team so quickly. It’ll do him the world of good though and hopefully in a year or two, he’ll be pushing for a first team spot, and not because of a lack of bodies.
He’s done himself proud and I hope he can push on.

Re: Benson
Way short of Hendrick levels but is a kid who has potential and may surpass Hendrick in years to come. Obviously a huge problem playing him at this unforgiving level, even Kevin Long, a seasoned international, has badly struggled this season, and players who take the Championship by storm, such as Vydra, also struggle at times.
He will need to bulk up a lot and get his fitness up too, to Brownhill levels, as he matures. Then Benson may have a chance at this level. I’m sure he knows that, as Dyche will.

I just hope josh benson doesn’t read this board! Give him a break, he’s a young lad thrown in at the deep end, out off position. In a game we couldn’t afford to lose. He rolled his sleeves up and got stuck in. And helped the team to an priceless 3 points

I’m convinced that a lot of humble pie will be eaten where Benson is concerned. Looks an excellent player to me. I think we’ve got a gem. Amazed how quickly people are judging!
Re: Benson
Little terrier with quick feet, a decent eye for a pass and a good engine. Not overawed by any means so obviously plenty of confidence in himself. He’s definitely a chance at this level.

Couldn't have put it better
