If nothing had been given by the referee then yes, but I am sure once he's given that free kick that's it. VAR certainly didn't check anything this afternoon.
This is what the Premier League says about VAR
All goals scored in the Premier League will automatically be checked by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
They will check for any infringements by the attacking team in the attacking possession phase that led to the goal.
For factual decisions such as offside or the ball being out of play, the VAR will inform the referee, who will overturn any award of a goal.
For subjective decisions such as a foul or a handball, VAR can be used to overturn if a “clear and obvious error” has been identified.
The referee will explain his decision to the VAR and what he has seen.
If the evidence provided by the broadcast footage does not accord with what the referee believes he has seen, then the VAR can recommend an overturn.
The final decision will remain with the on-field referee.
The issue was that he blew for a free kick too early. It should be no different to the new rule for not flagging for offside if on a goalscoring opportunity (although admittedly was complaining about that rule last week when Mee got that knock which looked like had to go off)

Once he's blown, the fact that Barnes puts the ball into the net has no relevance. Had he not blown until the ball had gone in, VAR could have told him it should be a goal. Could VAR have checked for a penalty for a foul on Mee? I don't think so again once he's blown and given that free kick.

If a big Lad like Wood doesn't relish playing against an under 15 goalkeeper we dont really deserve anything irrespective of any wrong decisions of which there were definitely one or two.

I think we are saying the same thing Tony
He blew for the free kick. If he’d have waited for the end of phase of play, which I’d like to think a more experienced ref would have done, either he could have awarded a free kick if the shot had gone wide/been blocked or VAR would have checked the goal

Obviously I do. I don't like people abusing our players on this board, when they should be backing them.
If you support their 'right', then you're supporting their point of view. Regardless of what you pretend you believe.
Some of the comments first half were ridiculous , it's embarrassing to think some of these people call themselves supporters, when they clearly have no idea what support means.
We can all disagree on tactics, style, line ups etc, but as long as the players give 100%, we shouldn't be having a go at them. The stats prior to kick off showing Burnley with and without Mee in the team, are as clear as day, yet idiots calling for him to be pulled off, when he was clearly struggling with the pitch and his footwear is madness. And it needed pointing out.
Yes! Yes!.......A thousand times Yes!
We've got people on this board who react like Donald Trump when we're losing.

Surely VAR could have checked for a penalty for the assault on Ben Mee given that this occurred prior to the referee erroneously blowing the whistle for a free kick to Leeds.

You would’ve thought so. The game was stopped, and was going to start with a free kick or penalty either way. Why not just say we are just checking, hang on a sec?!? It just doesn’t make any sense at all. “VAR will correct any clear and obvious error”
