Our Last Window

Post by warksclaret » Sun Dec 27, 2020 5:10 pm

How many points do we think have been lost this season by being inactive in the Summer transfer window.I know its impossible to accurately assess but when you are starting games short of wingers or back up centre-halves through injury then you will get punished. Personally I think between 3-5 minimum. Games I can think of are Leicester, Southampton,Newcastle, and definitely today (when we could easily have picked up all 3 points)

Our lack of activity was bordering on the negligent

Wasn't just the inactivity that cost us in those games IMO. It was the clear and obvious disunity between the chairman and manager that had filtered down to the players. The whole thing just looked completely disjointed and stale.

We'll never know how many points that stopped us from otherwise achieving, but the disaster of the summer simply has to be put right next month.

Not many, I’d say. 1-4 perhaps. So hard to say when you don’t know who we might otherwise have signed or how they’d settled. But to play a match with no recognised wingers is not bordering negligent, it’s absolutely negligent.

We’re not in an injury crisis, just have a few players out. In that respect, this takeover can’t come soon enough, which is a shame given how well the Chairman/Board have done over the last 5 years.

Shall we start banging on about Sordell, Juke and Reid again too?

I'd agree with this, TW problems have been with us since before the Premier League, and do need addressing, but the difficulties at the top of the club did seem to affect us on the pitch. As soon as SD focused on matters on the pitch things improved.

Yes but it's a stupid pointless discussion isn't it? How many points has it cost us? What a silly question.

Just another excuse for folk to stamp their feet again.

It's not stupid at all. The recent window effects us this season not previous seasons where the players mention have already left.

Ps. This is a football forum so it's quite right to discuss it

If we didn't have any spare money there's little we could have done in the window unless we sold a player.

The window was ****. I think everyone agrees with that. What purpose does everyone saying it was **** again serve?

One of the reasons I stay well clear of this board got much of the time after a defeat. You end up with threads like this.

With respect we have had 126 pages relating to a proposed takeover on this board, which NO-ONE hand on heart can say is definitely going to happen. I know the window has cost us points and I was simply interested in knowing what other readers thought that margin was at this stage of the current season.Personally I think the points technically lost could have put us in the same position, points wise, that we were in at this stage last season Long term our transfer window in Summer might have more of a say in BurnleyFC's future than the take-over (if it happens !)

Depends if you can guarantee more points with new signings.

You can't, so we will never know.

Having Ben Mee out has cost us though

Mike has done a great job, only ever had the clubs best interest at heart.
Those thinking he has only had his own interests at heart are wrong.

He is a fan and wants the best for the team, look at how he has improved us window on window. We exit them smstronger than when we enter them, that's all we can ask for.

Ih and season tickets are frozen again

Hand on my heart, it’s going to happen. It would take something quite remarkable now for it not to.

After a refereeing performance like that, I’m not ruling out the quite remarkable  :?

I would guess that during the last window it was known to the board that new ownership was 'imminent' and that this would probably mean a different approach to new signings. So it wouldn't have been sensible to bring in new players who wouldn't fit in with the new regime's ideas and aspirations. Added to that, it wasn't clear how much harm Covid was going to do to the club's finances. I've no way of knowing, but I suspect these were the factors that stopped us bringing new players in. If that was the case, it wasn't really negligent, just policy at the time.
