MOTD 2 Leeds v Burnley

Post by icu81b4 » Sun Dec 27, 2020 11:35 pm

Both pundits agree that Pope did not foul Bamford as he got to the ball first - So no penalty and also agreed with SD about the disallowed goal and VAR not being used to assess the incident between Keeper and Mee.

Not that it helps.

Still fuming.

Unusual for all pundits to agree that the match official made some horrendous mistakes

I’m going to still be annoyed in the morning so I’ll watch it to cheer me up. Glad it’s being called out by the pundits!!

It's telling that both pundits are ex-players, and yes they were both in agreement that the referees (I include Oliver as well) got all the key decisions wrong, sadly it doesn't help us one iota, what's done is done, we'll just have to use this injustice as motivation for the upcoming games, and take our frustration out on Sheff Utd & Fulham.

you should have heard Richard Keys talk about the disallowed goal - it's either a goal or a penalty

Even Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton thought both decisions were shambolic

Add those decisions to the Silva pen and we are being stuffed by prem refs.
Is it a conspiracy?

Jamie Redknapp said on Sky that it was a clear cut penalty for him and so it just goes to show how useless his opinions are.
It wasn’t a penalty and we should have had one.
Leeds were awful. The most frustrating game I have seen in a long time.

For all the dislike on here for Mason and Moss it is Oliver who shafts us more than any other referee.

According to Rob Jones he had a good game....

"He said he felt it was a clear foul from Ben Mee on the goalkeeper," said Dyche.

He added: "If the referee is suggesting, as he did to me, that he felt the had a decent game today, then that needs to be fed back. That is for the powers that be."

Hopefully we will hear what happens to the ref as he has to be answerable to someone after that inept performance. A multi million pound league has to put up better than that. It could cost a club millions if relegated. Completely ruined it being a fair game.

Unfortunately I watched MOTD2 again on catchup and that has resurrected my extreme anger.

I shouldn't have done it, I know, but I had to confirm that it wasn't a bad dream.

Some of the thoughts that I was having after the game and still last night, were the sort of things that in the past I’ve heard people say out loud on games and in the pub and thought don’t be so stupid.
Inept refereeing in real time and then poor and biased punditry is one thing but when you have a system in place to review decisions and a ridiculous amount of time has been taken on some and for us they make the decision, regardless of wrong or right, just like that and then don’t even review the other, must be paranoia that’s set in, but it feels so predictable.

Entirely agree. Can only imagine that Oliver and Jones are mates and he was trying to back him or something.

My initial view was that the pen against us was dubious but could have gone either way. Having watched it again, and in the context of how keepers are protected, very harsh.

The other is inexcusable both from the ref blowing up and VAR not awarding a pen.

I hope Dyche keeps on about this. Not that we want to dwell on it but I do want refs to know that if they award **** decisions against us that we’ll call them out and make a deal of it!

This error of not granting our goal yesterday is on a similar scale to last season's VILLA v SHEFF UTD, when the ball was inside the goal against the side netting, and was not allowed. That "goal had it been given would have kept Bournemouth up and Villa relegated. Just hoping that this goal does not have the same bearing at the end of the season

The photo shows one of the most clear cut penalties you are likely to see however tbf to the ref., his view of this was obstructed by Ben Mee himself. The real failure here is VAR and the VAR ref Oliver to rectify the on field referee’s error on this occasion and with the penalty as well which for Jones was a split second decision called incorrectly.

Entirely agree. Think it was Oliver reffing that game too, wasn’t it? Maybe he does favour the big clubs?

We really have enough time to take control of our own destiny, but decisions like this can cost a team at the end of a season, hence why I hope Sean harps on about it some more, complains where he can and hopefully ensures it doesn’t happen to us again!!

I still don’t get why the whistle being blown stopped a review. The whistle being blown didn’t influence the next step, ie no one stopped playing.

9 minutes until Gallagher agrees that Pope gave away a penalty, and the ref was unfortunate to miss the clear foul on Mee because he was looking straight at it, so couldn't see the knee in the back

At last people are realising how poor and vastly overrated that prat Oliver is, Ive been banging the drum in here for at least 4 seasons. He can't go through a round of games without causing a stink, whether that be as a ref or on VAR duty. He had one good season about a decade ago and has lived off the hype ever since.

An arrogant t0sser as well, if he were made of chocolate he'd eat himself

Mark Halsey just been on Talk Sport and says ref got it badly wrong, they need better training and VAR not being used properly. The decisions were so poor I’d have been tempted to walk off pitch, abandon the match and have a 3-0 defeat awarded to make the PL address this properly .

Couple of other things I noticed on MOTD that the red mist had made me overlook:

- In the move that ended in the Lowton shot, Benson seemed to get fouled in the box. No replay so hard to tell but I think in the circumstances of the game he should’ve made more of that and stayed down.

- Pope was excellent again with 3 decent saves.

- Quite a compliment to us that Bielsa changed tactics.

They'll probably bum him up and give him one of the big games.

The only ref demoted recently was Graham Scott who had the audacity to go against VAR advice, other than that there is zero accountability.

Its no wonder the reffing standard is on its ar5e under the leadership of the spineless get that is Mike Riley

We have one of , if not the best league in the world with the worst officials in the world , something major needs to change at premier league board level , there has to be a more professional provider of referees chosen , maybe we should be importing the worlds best officials like we do with players and paying them appropriately to deliver that service.

I’d say get Clattenburg involved he is wasted in Saudi

Just watching The Foootball Show on Sky Sports News. Dermot Gallagher says no foul on Ben Mee but should of been allowed to carry on and see the outcome, he also said Leeds was a definite pen. Stephen Warnock and the female presenter both disagreed definite foul on Ben Mee and no foul on Bamford so no pen for Leeds. Our refereeing standards are rubbish everybody knows both decisions are incorrect apart from the guys who are meant to know and understand the game better than the rest of us. I despair

Seems a bit odd that Leic have got him twice in 5 days. Once in the middle and then on VAR.
Could see lots of penalties via VARdy.
New v Lei, Jones as ref, and Mason on VAR. The dream team!

There's no denying that the two decisions went against us and in theory cost us three points.

However when we've got this referee bashing out of the system perhaps we should look at the team's performance.

We had a large part of the game left after the Ben Mee incident to rectify the damage caused - being 1-0 down - and failed to do so. That's what I take from what I saw. To our credit we stopped a team with as good an attack as Leeds from being a major threat on our goal and we took the game to them, BUT, we failed to really threaten a team with such a poor defensive reputation. I hope our management look at that. It is something they can control.

The referee didn't help but it was the Burnley players/management that lost the game.

We need the referee that gave a last minute penalty against PSG for United last season after checking VAR, showed how it’s done, a man with no bias and balls to make the right decision, not these cowards hiding in a room somewhere eating Twix with their cups of tea tossing it off

How on earth can Gallagher say with a straight face there is no foul on Ben Mee when every video replay clearly shows it was?

Absolute p*ss take :x

I’d say get Clattenburg involved he is wasted in Saudi
Clattenburg saying in today's Mail "Ben Mee did absolutely nothing wrong and Burnley's equaliser should have stood."

Seems a bit odd that Leic have got him twice in 5 days. Once in the middle and then on VAR.
Could see lots of penalties via VARdy.
New v Lei, Jones as ref, and Mason on VAR. The dream team!
Yes that caught my eye also, is this usual practice for an official to have the same club twice in the space of a week, it could cause ructions if he awards a controversial decision in today's game, and he's then on the field of play 5 days later when one of the teams involved play.

FWIW I hope he has a stinker, because this would just justify Sean's rant yesterday, however knowing our luck he'll have a blinder, and all the neutrals will wonder why we are complaining about him.
