Spiral on BBC4

Post by huw.Y.WattfromWare » Tue Dec 29, 2020 1:22 pm

I know we have a few fans on here. Series 8 starts at 9pm on Saturday. Double episodes.
Might have slipped by you with it being New Year.

Thank you for that. It had certainly slipped by me. I would have been very annoyed to have missed it.

Watched the first season and wanted to like it more to be honest. I just found it a little too procedural and not gripping enough. Am I missing out?

I've watched a few of the series. Not something Id make a point of being in house for but decent entertainment if you're in and not watching anything else. I found that if I watched the fiirst couple of episodes of each series- I had to watch the storyline all the way through.

I believe this is defo the last series (previously 7 series spread over 15 years so it's had a long run). I'll miss the now retired Judge Roban who always reminded me of Arsene Wenger. I spot, though, that his replacement is a female who is a bit more of a looker.

Excellent series. We've watched BBC4 on Saturday nights for a very long time and thoroughly enjoy the foreign imports on view. Think The Bridge tops them all, certainly as far.as character development with Saga Noren, played wonderfully by Sofia Helin an outstanding actress.

We are 9pm BBC4 fanatics as well. Got the box set “The Bridge” for Xmas along with Spiral season7, already had the first 6 in one box. Recently enjoyed DNA in the slot. Montalbano is fine viewing as well.

Yes, DNA was excellent with a clever finale. My wife loves Montalbano but that is perhaps the only series I avoid. Tried a couple of episodes but didn't enjoy them at all. Also enjoyed the very 'dark' series set around North Wales called 'Hidden'.

If you like the Bridge have you checked out the "Walter Presents" programmes on Channel 4? You can binge watch them.

Just caught the first 3 eps of Baltic Crimes. Enjoyed. I believe there were other series on before that but can’t do catch ups here.

Yes, watched them. Enjoyed the one based in a still divided Germany during the 1974 World Cup

I really enjoyed 'Hidden', I used to live in that area.

Great start to the series last night. Characters Gilou Escoffier and Laure Berthaud already on top form. Don't think we'll see Judge Francois Ronan which is a shame. Best couple of hours viewing ov er the weekend.

There's a new series in the same vein coming up next week, the 8th, Rebecka Martinson- Arctic Murders......its series 2 apparently, but I watch so many of these things I can't remember if I've watched series 1

I’ve tried to watch Hidden a couple of times but something about the casting or script or story opening has put me off. Should I try again?

Immediately hooked again. All 8 series are on the iPlayer - well worth watching from the start. Managed to resist watching any further than Saturday night's episodes so far.

Being a fan I would say, yes. The tempo is fairly slow quite regularly but it gets deeper and 'darker'. Be interested in your take on it if you do watch again.

Well Hidden’s going to have to wait because I started watching this Spiral last night from the beginning and I’m hooked already :D
