Fulham game in doubt?
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
Problem is with a full calendar already and the Euros starting in mid June how is the league going to fit in a load of postponed games?

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
Not much of an issue for us but if the teams playing in Europe start having games postponed it will be a problem.

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
They may have to do what they did last season, and curb the European ties to one off games, that should help ease the backlog, the big boys won't like it but tough if that's what it takes to complete the season then so be it.

Well it is very unlike to happen then if the big boys won’t like it. The big teams in Europe will not be happy with big European ties being only one leg for the second season in a row.

If Fulham have affected players, they don't play, but the game goes ahead. I don't suppose they're ill, anyway.

How many Fulham players need to isolate? I guess if they have several players missing then let's go ahead and play them without those players.

If the truth is that they broke Covid rules and that’s why they’re infected, then they should be forced to play us with their weakened squad and put kids on the bench - in addition to being fined.

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
That is what it says in the rule book. However there is a problem.
Lets say there was a social gathering, a party, where 19 individuals from two clubs attended. Those people then mingle with the rest of the squad at training, briefings, travel afterwards.
Those at the party may test positive 5 days later but the others may be infected but not yet positive.
Therefore there might be more than 14 fit players but the number of potential infectious players is an unknown.
So Fulham might have been having positive tests on the before the game but have potentially others who could become infectious in the following days.
It has been two days, so i think its on a knife edge, any more positives would have the game cancelled.

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
I'm amazed at how many people think this is just about the number of fit players they have available.
If the story of the party is correct then forfeiting the game would be appropriate punishment but I doubt the PL would risk the legal challenges of doing this.

One of the rumours doing the rounds is that a player hired a private jet to fly in from Germany to attend the party.

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
The solution is simple.
You can’t play them given that it’s possible others are unknowingly contagious which could then pass on to our players.
So what we do is obvious. They declare all positive tests. And we replay the game when appropriate but with all positive tested banned for the rearranged game.
Won’t happen but seems the most logical.

If there is any truth in this rumour and it is proven that Walker did arrange/attend this party he should be banned from playing football for life.Jeffbfc wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 12:00 pmhttps://fanbanter.co.uk/man-city-defend ... -outbreak/

I don't know much about this particular website but, although there are a few 'allegedlys' thrown in, it would seem a bit reckless to write such stuff if you couldn't back it up.

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
No I agree it won't happen, but it's the big boys in the main who are complaining about the lack of rest time between games, I was merely offering one possible solution to reduce their workload if their pampered superstars can't cope with playing 3 games a week.thelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:40 amWell it is very unlike to happen then if the big boys won’t like it. Even Walker can’t be stupid enough to break the same rule twice! Or can he?
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
Life's a bit strong. Certainly if anyone is proved to have broken coronavirus rules in such a flagrant way and it is at least their third offence, they ought to be banned for the duration of the coroanvirus restrictions, not because it's a punishment but because obviously they are incapable or unwilling to follow the rules. But life is too much.
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
Of course he can. Rules don’t apply to him, he is a modern multi million pound footballer who’s arrogance knows no bounds.
File him in the same drawer as Grealish.
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
That seems to be the case with quite a number of empty headed footballers, and until the transgressors receive serious punishment, I don’t see their attitude changing anytime soon!
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
Aye that just sounds like the kind of thing SD would do the very minute the ink was dry on the takeover - “right all you lot you are on your last chance now I have a treasure chest ready to spend on better players than you sorry lot. Thanks for all your hard work and that but business is business”
In other news SD has just been seen driving into the training ground in a brand new yellow Ferrari dressed in a full length fur coat like Snoop Dog. He’s also just mentioned to the canteen staff that they all have a “last chance to impress him” too and they better start cooking their arses off pronto.

These are the group who have achieved 2 top 10 finishes in the last 3 seasons, they deserve respect

Re: Fulham game in doubt?
I never take any game for granted, and Fulham will be well aware of the importance of Sunday's match, and beware the wounded tiger, their predicament could result in them wanting to prove all their critics wrong, and although they haven't been winning matches recently they also haven't been losing them, 4 draws on the spin, and in those 4 games they've only conceded twice, so compared to their early season form they're becoming a tougher nut to crack, I'd still make us slight favourites, but it most certainly won't be a cakewalk, I'd happily settle for a repeat of the Sheff Utd game, and a hard-fought 1-0 win.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:18 pmThey can prepare as much as they want...they aint getting any!

The issue is that those who are in power to punish them (the club) are also those who will suffer the consequences. Unless the Premier League wants a massive legal challenge from the likes of City they are powerless to do anything.

Man City are playing their game against Chelsea without 5 players who have tested positive.
According to Guardiola, Walker and Jesus are 2 of them, he says we will know who the other 3 are when the team is anounced on Sunday.

I reckon Kyle Walker has probably played his last game for City, surely he can't come back from this, if what's alleged is true.
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
I don't think the sponge man would play. For them, it is just a rest for a few who would get a rest, in any case. For us it would mean the likes of me looking for my boots and making sure they were dubbined and ready!

Hence why I used the term alleged, but yes it's hardly the type of scoop the media would sit on, so we'll just have to wait and see what if anything emerges in the coming days.
Re: Fulham game in doubt?
The BBC Sport website is quoting Scot Parker as saying that the Premier League should not be forcing him to travel to Burnley with a heavily depleted group.
