About bloody time!

And while they're about it why no long overdue
Knighthoods for Roger Hunt and George Cohen. They are the only still living players from our1966 World Cup winning team. Yes Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton deserved their Knighthoods but so too do Roger Hunt and George Cohen

The greatest striker England has ever produced, but he didn't suit the suits.

Long overdue when you think of all the other members of England's World Cup winning squad who have been honoured previously.

What a goalscorer he was by the way!

Before my time but my dad also says he was the best striker he has seen and others from that generation have said the same to me. Must have been some player. Rapid acceleration and a deadly finisher from what I'm told.

Jimmy had fantastic balance and a low centre of gravity which enabled him time to place the ball accurately in the back of the net.

Just looking at his stats, incredible numbers, most ever England hat-tricks (6) and the all time top-flight goal scorer (357) not to mention his media career after retiring from the game, I am shocked he's only just getting an MBE, i actually thought he'd already been knighted, but clearly that wasn't the case.

Quite a few years ago I met Jimmy Greaves at his book signing in Milton Keynes

I asked him if I could shake the hand of England's greatest ever goalscorer

He duly obliged

He did and I met him once at a dinner we organised at the club and he was with Ian St John that night.

I was talking to him before we started and he suddenly said I'd have to excuse him because someone had walked in that he knew. It was Jimmy Mac, Greaves rushed over and embraced him, had a few words and then came back. He just said to me: "What a ****** player he was>"

A wonderfully gifted goalscorer who broke my heart too many times. I should have had total disdain for him, instead it's increasingly become more and more respect. The best goalscorer I've ever seen. His stats as a full time pro were mentioned higher up and impressive is an under-statement. Have a look at his stats as an apprentice/junior at Chelsea; they read like something out of a schoolboy's comic. Just incredible.

Too young to see him play but heard how good he was.

But did see him on tv and loved his character
and personality. None like that about on tv now.

Love this one with Donald trump.

I hadn't seen that one when I started the thread. I actually sat next to Ron Flowers at the pre-season game at Brocton three years or so ago when his grandson Harry was playing for us and it turned out it was on his 83rd birthday.

Jack Charlton was a late concern for England at the World Cup Final in 1966 and Flowers would have played had Charlton not made it. As it happened he sat with Greaves and the others in the squad who didn't make it.

A top player but, of course, didn't stand out like Greaves who used to win games week after week with his goalscoring.

Respect to Jimmy and the award is richly deserved
Just a shame it wasn't a knighthood given to him when in better health
