It will be interesting to see how their values define the club over time. I associate Mormons with honesty and integrity. It will also be interesting to see how their view of gambling influences things going forward - jdrobbo on here feels passionate about the detrimental effect it has on the game and individuals in particular, and I'm sure he'll be interested to see if there is any change in the longer-term.
Absolutely. I’ll never stop banging that drum! Thanks for the mention.

From the mention of Salt Lake City I new these people were of the Mormon faith. One basic truth of their religion is Mormons help Mormons.

This is the fastest growing religion on earth and we now have or going to have an enormous fan base of followers who may nothing of "fotball" or "soccer" but support our club with its new ownership and when it comes to finance "Mormons help Mormons".

A good interview and undoubtedly saying the right things.

I can't help feeling there is a " Capital Punishment " Brendan Flood type influence in his thoughts !

Really, where’s that? I can’t see it in the replies?

I was waiting for someone to complain about an interview in the DM though!
His reply was...

Hi ...I look forward to speaking with a range of media outlets - and communicating directly with supporters - over the coming months. This interview was an initial opportunity for me to share our vision with the widest possible audience

That reads very well - more enlightening than the one on the club website. He certainly seems to understand the ethos of the club, and I particularly like the bit “winning a cup or qualifying for Europa again”. I’ve also long believed that the club should be “everyone’s favourite underdog” - at the moment we seem to be regarded as something the Premier League trod in and can’t get off it’s shoe! Maybe that message will play quite well in the states.

Still a number of caveats though:
The debt - how much and at what rate (not sure how many of us could afford a mortgage at double-digit interest rates!)
Partner clubs - who will be feeding who???
Player scouting - Brexit will make it much more difficult for non-established players to get work permits. How “proven” is the software?

Still no mention of “Northern Powerhouse” though ;)

I remember pointing out to some fresh faced Mormons in Preston 25 years ago that their religion could not help me achieve my life’s ambition which at the time was to see us beat Rovers. Little did I realize how wrong I was! Very exciting article and if it all goes wrong and we end up a middling Championship club Garlick and John B can use their £120-150m to buy the club back and we go again!

For me the most important thing about all of this, and it’s my biggest concern, is that the club is always at Turf moor in the heart of Burnley & not relocated into the centre of the area as he calls it.
Living & renting a refurbished barn near Clitheroe, walking down the street meeting the locals is not quite like buying an end terrace or the block in Burnley Wood & nipping down to Bellfields chippy for your tea & nipping to the Miners or Prinny Royal beer garden pre match.

Yes I know they don’t drink

Wouldn’t be my choice but I imagine it’s something to do with the Mail being one of the most widely read websites in the world.

Or maybe they just asked...

Impressed with them so far.

If you are reading this Alan, please try now to talk Tarks into signing a new contract with us. If he won't, please bring in his eventual replacement in this window.

Also, virtually every BFC fan knows that we need a right-footed wide midfielder desperately and we need him now. This is because relying on Robbie and JBG's fitness is the biggest risk to our PL status, along with inadequate cover for Tarks and Ben.

Yeah but that was then and this is now. Low inflation and near-zero base rates, 10% is a very high hurdle for a business to overcome.

Houses in Burnley and the surrounding areas didn’t cost a quarter of a million quid then, though.

Good read that.
I refuse to use the term "exciting" as that word has been ruined for me now.
I like the DM and fwiw they are usually quite complimentary about us.
What has been destroyed at Southampton????
I know they have produced plenty of young talent and a lot of it has moved on, which is inevitable for most Clubs, but have they trashed the Academy or something?

Some novel plans and a lot that would be predicted from anyone taking over. Surprising that they say were here previously as Mormon ‘missionaries’ :D

Be interesting then on our links with Benedictine and gambling sponsorships.

“ Pace is talking just before meeting Dyche for the first time. The manager will be given funds this month, although that will be measured. 'I'll tell you, I've been offered players within 24 hours of being in charge,' says Pace. 'That is ridiculous. I don't like what I see from agents. There is a good chance for us to do things differently.”

For me that’s a bit concerning. Nobody likes using agents but they are a necessary evil IMO and we need a good relationship with them. Sounds a bit too much like MGs way of working to me.

A very good interview and nothing in it rang alarm bells for me.

He addressed the finance by saying even if they were billionaires they wouldn’t necessarily have used their own money for investment. The reason being, this isn’t a pet project on which they need a return on their money, it is a business. And most big business leverages other peoples money to grow quicker.

A very positive-sounding (reading) interview and I especially like the bit about technology. Being into my stats and analytics myself, it'll be interesting to see how this helps with our scouting. Whilst I believe you, of course, need to have watched the player, as with traditional scouting, if you have concise stats to add weight to the thinking of going for a player, I'm all for it. It can help us find some real gems for much less than we'd normally be paying, and of course, can also help with the academy.

I sincerely hope that the overseas partner club is Sport Club Freiburg !
S.C. Freiburg is a very similar club to Burnley F.C. and tend to overachieve in the Bundesliga.
They have a great Football School for younger players and have just built a new stadium on the outskirts of the town.
The new stadium is for about 30,000 fans whereas the old one was for about 24,000 fans, a similar size to Turf Moor.
S.C. Freiburg have provided many Bundesliga clubs with some great players over the years, several of whom become German international players.
The Manager of S.C.Freiburg, Christian Streich, has a remarkably similar career to Sean Dyche.

Interesting they choose the mail for the first interview. Many on here think they are unreliable as far as Burnley is concerned, but yet they will have been advised by the club which paper to trust.
Or which paper to get the message out most effectively. If the plan is to raise the club's profile there will have been thoughts about how to execute the different strands of this strategy.

Exciting times.

Yes, but most other businesses have a much greater predictability of future revenues than football clubs, and investment doesn’t mean buying something as unpredictable as footballers at £10s of millions a pop.

These are two of the many reasons why I’m always sceptical about football being treated like “any other business”. It isn’t. The only example I can think of of a leveraged model working in football is Man Utd, and that is because it is a global franchise that is not wholly dependent on what happens on the pitch. A similar approach almost ended very badly even for Liverpool.

Still many questions to be answered , probably in time . Servicing the debt on Burnley’s meagre profit margins will be tough. They have big ideas yes but that’s all just hopes and dreams. How has it been done in other clubs? Selling the assets , relocating the ground , flipping the debt . There’s just as much chance of these as it all working.
Using magic data to find players? Isn’t this already being done ? Still remains the same rules, successful clubs spend more money on players , it’s that simple and a stone cold fact . Managers, tactics, Data ,none of these are evidenced to be as successful as paying top dollar. That’s football .
Still if you can flog Brexit and a Tory mp to Burnley folk then I’m flogging a dead horse here .

Time will tell. The point I was trying to make is that usages someone elses money rather than your own shows confidence they have in the business model. What he said was true, many billionairs will use finance for business ventures rather than cash out of their own pocket. These guys have plenty of experience in the world of finance.

And also think this will require a shift in our playing style overtime in order to shake off the lazy opinions & dislike that we always seem to be labelled with. The financial backing in recruitment will need to help drive this with better players & Dyche has a massive role here too in his approach & framework.
The first team is what most interests me. New stands etc. are bonuses.

Dyche has shown we can shift playing styles if we can bring in the right players. We took a gamble on Defour, not his quality but his injury condition. Combine that with Brady and Gudmundsson and it paid off to some extent but if we can find a similar player but fitter, plus of course a fit right winger, we would be back to where we were then. That would be a good start.

No ones doubting he hasn’t got confidence in the “business model” as you put it. But will he still have that confidence when we’re in the Championship with half the crowds and 1/4 of the income but with eye watering payments to make.

To say it’s a a preferable business model to owning the club outright and having no debt is utter tripe.

The Mormon way of Doing Business looks an interesting book for Clarets fans right now, it may help give an insight in to how Alan Pace thinks and acts along with his Consortium, including Checketts, who is mentioned in the book.

"...The Founder of JetBlue (Checketts is also on the board), The CEO of Dell Computers, The CEO of Deloitte & Touche, The Dean of the Harvard Business School. They all have one thing in common Mormonism"

Best piece for me:

'We would like him to continue for as long as he'd like to. That will be his choice'

Welcome Alan. That statement alone has won me over, for the time being.

Remember, some in Lower Darwen welcomed The Venkys ;)

Or which paper to get the message out most effectively. If the plan is to raise the club's profile there will have been thoughts about how to execute the different strands of this strategy.

Exciting times.
