Team for MK Dons

Post by IWOODLOVETT » Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:35 pm

The postponement of the Fulham game gives us the chance to get our crocked players a chance to get back to match fitness. I wouldn’t risk any of the current defence (including Pope) nor any of the midfield.
Bring back Cork, Vydra, Bards, Rodders and JBG plus give Stephens and Benson a full game.

Agreed. I would go for a similar team to what we put out against Millwall personally

Had the Man U game not been scheduled for three days later then I think we'd have gone with a pretty full strength team for this one. I do think he'll field a strong team though given we won't have played for a week and a half.

Should be an opportunity for our new signings to get some game time 😏

A bit surprised that nobody has included Stephens. I think he's a nailed on starter.

I would think so Paul. He needs game time and here’s an opportunity to get it.

Totally forgot about Stephens. He definitely needs to start so him in, instead of Jack , then let Jack come on for 25 minutes

This line up should give these players much needed game time. And also ensure the remaining 1st team squad players are rested for our next league game against Man Utd. I do think the postponement of the Fulham game may turn out to be a good thing in the long run (if we look past the reasons why it has happened). Our squad is on the small side as we all know and I'm sure there are players who have been carrying knocks over the past couple of weeks, so a rest will come in handy. Also gives Dyche a chance (hopefully) to make sense of the first impressions from the takeover and try and get a plan together for this month.

It’s more important to us that Cork gets minutes over Benson. I’d try and give Cork 65/70 mins.

That's what I'd go with assuming all are fit and available, that side should be good enough to beat an average League 1 team. And we can get Bardsley, Cork, Stephens, JBG & Jay some much needed minutes.

I would pick either Dunne or Thomas alongside either Mee or Tarkowski. Much better experience for them. Playing in a reserve side in the Cup is little different from playing in a reserve side in the reserves league; better IMO to give two or three youngsters experience in an otherwise first team selection.

Peacock-Farrell
Bardsley - Long - Dunne - Driscoll-Glennon
Benson - Cork - Stephens - JBG
Vydra (or Mumbongo) - Rodriguez
Subs:
Goodridge, Mancini, Richardson, Thomas, Norris, Barnes, Thompson, Mumbongo (or Wood) Pieters.

The Tarkowski situation could cause us problems. We cannot throw away another decent transfer fee. ALK need to get him signed up sharpish. If he still won’t sign sell him and get a top class replacement in, not Jones. Until then don’t risk him in cup games.
BPF
Bardsley..Long..Dunne..Pieters
JBG....Benson..Cork..Brady
Wood...Mumbongo

Chris Wood needs a couple of goals for his confidence. He also needs a shave. If it is a game day superstition it’s not working.

Given they play Liverpool just a few days later, and have a semi final against Man City tomorrow, and play a very decent Watford side in the FA Cup (a game OGS will see as must not lose), you have to suspect they might rest a player or 2 against us

Great time for us to be playing Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea really

I suspect MK Dons team is very dependent on who is back from injury

Whilst I would like to see some of the younger players start, I just don't think it's realistic when there are seasoned pros who NEED game time. Would be amazed if Mancini starts before Stephens or Cork. He might be on the bench.

We always get loads of people saying get some of the kids and fringe players out there and give them some game time as it's "only" a lower league team in the cup. Then we lose and this board goes white hot!!! ;)

Sadly this season I have to agree, if we were higher in the league I might think differently, but PL survival has to take precedence.

I'd hope next season if we get a deeper squad then we might be able to have a real crack at one or both domestic cups.

Well Westwood should not play and anyone else with a relatively high number of bookings. I would not start JBG, we probably know we will only have a couple of games from him before he is injured again. So save him for the next 2 league games.

FA Cup bookings don't count towards league suspensions, so that needn't be a concern.

As it stands, we have to play 23 matches in 20 weeks up and including our last league game. If the Cup goes well, we have to play 28 (first one against Milton Keynes) in 20 weeks. That is not going to ruin the players. Potential positive - Cup Final - potential negative - some precious poppet can't play 28 games. We don't have precious poppets. They can do it.
