New desktop pc advice

Post by duncandisorderly » Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:17 pm

Is this any good?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Computer-Vouch ... r=1-3&th=1

It seems like it's pretty good value, but I'm wary of buying expensive things from Amazon.
It seems to be a good 400 quid cheaper than similar spec machine elsewhere, considering the bundle and whilst it's a little more expensive than I hoped, it turns out there's not much out there for less than a grand.

I'm a casual gamer - bit of WoW, Civ, FM, and other RTS/RPG types so I don't need VR or owt - and I'd need it to do work related activities too which I'm sure wouldn't be a problem.

But you guys know loads more than me, so have at it.

Id compare it to mesh, ive bought two gaming pcs from them in the last 4 years (2 kids) and they have been superb.

Decent spec but crap graphics cards as it's 2 generations old. I'd pay the extra £200 and upgrade to the GTX 3070. Well worth the extra money for gaming.

I have good experience with these people over the last ten years or so, both with two major purchases and support when problems occurred:

https://wired2fire.co.uk/

They also offer good advice, over the phone if you prefer.

One of the most difficult decision is what choice of monitor, not only buying one but setting it up for your purposes (same with the graphics card). Nvidia for example use G-sync and not all monitors have this. Find a decent monitor review site if you can. I can't find the one I used a year ago unfortunately.

I’ve just sold an overclockers and scan gaming pc’s . Would of been great for you . Miles better than the link you posted. Unless it’s a present maybe look on eBay you’d get a better pc than that for 7/800

Don’t waste your time with gsync monitors. Make sure you minimum 144 hz though. 240 is better and 360 is the dogs but don’t get a 60hz monitor ( unless your 4K gaming ) which actually you won’t be in that price range anyway

In the first place I was trying to keep it below a grand, thinking it was possible. I suppose it is, but it's unrealistic.
Then I said to myself no more than 1200. Then I saw this at 1300. Now you suggest the one at 1500....!

No. If you graphics cards pushing 500 fps and you have a Gsync monitor at 244 why limit it to 244 ? It actually depends on the games you play(causes input lag, so terrible for Esport titles). I always have and always will have Gysnc switched off as I only play esport games

It's not a particularly good deal. You can get this https://m.dell.com/h5/m/r/outlet.euro.d ... 1reRk6iWwm which has a better processor and RAM and then buy an extra HDD plus a better monitor for the same price.

Or get this https://m.dell.com/h5/m/r/outlet.euro.d ... 2CRQ%3d%3d

Seems expensive for what it is and I'd be dubious about the monitor and other components.

In all honesty, save yourself a few hundred quid and buy https://www.cclonline.com/pc/gaming-pcs ... gaming-pc/ based on what you want to use it for.

It's a kinda entry level but more than capable machine for 1080p usage.

The CPU will do - that's about all you can say of it but it'll be fine. You could upgrade it for 70 odd quid to the Ryzen 5 3600.

The 1660 super is a great GPU (bought one for my son, surprised how well it copes), you'll get more than 60 frames per second on most things off it so would be worth a 144hz monitor.

Then buy your own monitor and keyboard, mouse etc on top. Buy it from CCL without Windows 10 as you can get a cdkey off ebay for about 3 quid.

Thats definitely better value than the amazon one.

Technically, but all the stuff from the outlet store seems to be in as new condition and has a Dell warranty

I think a lot of people have strayed off topic and posted what they would like as a gaming PC. I use a £144 AOC 27" monitor (amazon bargain) and a £115 GEFORCE GTX 4GB 1050Ti graphics card and its wonderful for CIV VI/Total war warhammer2 etc. You really don't have to spend a lot of money on the perfect PC for the type of games the OP wants to play.
