Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
Can you imagine what it would have been like if there had been UTC in 61/62? This board would have melted down at that performance. It did look as if the Clarets had had a heavy session the night before
Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
A great Burnley team on view there but we were certainly under the cosh in the 1st half. Some great saves from Blacklaw but Adam's kicking wasn't the best. But a typical Claret performance of getting a result when not at our best. UTC

Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
Don Howe at right back for West Brom and Bobby Hope in midfield. Think that was Clive Clarke on their left wing who had some 'interesting' tussles with John Angus over the years.

Bobby Robson there as well.
About 6 years before I started watching Clarets on a regular basis.
Thanks for though link though, very enjoyable.

Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
Brilliant,
That was our cup-final line up, I believe, Albion had some famous names and it looked like they gave us a bit of a seeing to (barring the result).
I wish football was like that today

Cracking watch, thanks for posting this.
I assume Jock Wallace is the would-be future Leicester manager.

Yes CL, also the Rangers boss on a couple of occasions. David Burnside and Derek Kevan brought back some memories

Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
I had forgotten how quickly the keepers used to get the ball into play when they had to bounce it if moving and then get rid. Even the goalkicks were taken much quicker than they are today, even if the keeper was not taking the kick.

Thanks for that giveusab. It lead me to the season prior. Second half coverage only but for a Ray Pointer fanatic, like me, it shows him at his best. Leading the line, winning the ball and scoring. Dusty gets a cracker too.

By Golly that was good . I think the commentator was Alan Weeks. I want to know why the players weren't rolling around on the floor and screaming when they were tackled!

Dave Burnside was a very good 'inside forward' and also well-known at the time for his exceptional ability at ball juggling which just occasionally he would put on show in a pre-match warm up just before kick off.onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 9:13 pmYes CL, also the Rangers boss on a couple of occasions. He certainly did but I remember him more at Wolves. The amazing kids doing their keepie up tricks today would laugh at him but back then he was special.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 10:19 amDave Burnside was a very good 'inside forward' and also well-known at the time for his exceptional ability at ball juggling which just occasionally he would put on show in a pre-match warm up just before kick off.

They didn't roll around because it was far too muddy and the laundry lady used to tell them off if they got too mucked up!Paulclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 9:34 amBy Golly that was good . Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
Brilliant to see this, makes me wonder if there is any film from the 65-66 season apart from Spurs in the Cup.
Re: West Brom v Burnley 1961-62
Found this Manchester Utd v Burnley game which it says is 1965-66.Unfortunately a defeat but it’s 46 minutes of footage.

Good stuff....must be the 1966-67 season though as Kenneth Wolstenholme references Burnley's ICFC cup game with Stuttgart which was September 1966.giveusaB wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:28 pmFound this Manchester Utd v Burnley game which it says is 1965-66.Unfortunately a defeat but it’s 46 minutes of footage.

1965/6, Its a real shame there's hardly any footage of that season, it's not often we've beaten United and Liverpool in the same campaign.

That was a fantastic signing and what a forward line: Morgan, Lochhead, Irvine, Harris, Coates.onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 5:25 pm1965/6, Its a real shame there's hardly any footage of that season, it's not often we've beaten United and Liverpool in the same campaign.
