It's often mentioned on here, but just to show this can be an issue at even the big spenders.

Their star man isn't happy that Messi was offered mega wages and they're haggling with De Bruyne...

He's probably annoyed about being asked to take a pay cut. At Man City.

tells you a lot about the impact of Covid on football finances and how long the impact of that is expected to last - including the expected revenues on the next cycle of tv deals

fwiw any Messi deal for city will involve him going to play for New York City in the MLS at some point

Time for a wage and Transfer cap.

Time for these big money teams to move into a superleague as well.

Get rid of em and their greedy money grabbing players .

A wage and transfer cap would go against the top 6 so they would never want that unless it was a % of revenue where they'd have a distinct advantage.

Thing is, if you take 20 of the top teams and put them in a superleague then what? How will PSG feel about finishing in the bottom 5 when they're used to winning every game? Because of course that's what happens in football 1 team wins 1 team loses. You take them out of their existing leagues and all but one of those "champions" becomes an also ran and half of the teams will want to sack their manager because they've finished in the bottom half. The premier league teams have the most to lose. Currently they're at the top of the biggest league in the world..but what if Bayern and Juventus are better than them? Will they be happy to finish 4th in a league that has no champions league places? With no relegation and promotion half the teams would be playing "friendlies" from Christmas onwards because other than those with a chance of winning they'd have nothing to play for. I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching it.

Putting Messi on your payroll could get messy.

How very dare they. The cheek of it.

Everyone knows that it's your employers absolute duty to match whatever expectations you have of your own earning capacity. Shame on them.

Realistically a five year deal being offered to a player at 29/30 years of age ought to be a bit less than a five year deal at 24/25; will De Bruyne be capable of performing to the same standard and still getting into a Man City team five years from now?

I think he's right to be upset.
I'm sure Barcelona would be willing to pay him more than Citeh have offered. Their uneven handling of the 2 cases could cost them.

If I were Dyche I'd be in for him and promise that we won't offer more to any other player than we pay him

Sterling is on more isn't he, and he (Kevin De Bruyne) is twice the player of that smaller person (Sterling)
