You can always rely on the scousers to be part of an "upset". Be interesting to see if there's a pattern to their "upsets"

Stanley playing v. well. Hopefully, they'll be knocking a few in down Deadwood next season.

Re: Tonight's footy
Stanley look a really good team. Hope they don’t have to sell in this window as they have every chance of being in the hunt for automatic.
Re: Tonight's footy
It's worth watching the comical dive from the Villa goalkeeper for Liverpool's 3rd. Ball loops over him from a header into the back of the net and then he decides to leap for it.
Very funny.

Re: Tonight's footy
Really impressed by Accy tonight, keep playing like that and must be looking good for the play offs at least. At times they defended like us, throwing themselves at the ball.

Apparently, 6 of Villa’s starting 11 have tested positive for Calpol.

Re: Tonight's footy
Great performance from Accrington tonight and played some attractive football.
Just wonder if they finish top 2 or win the play-offs whether their ground would pass any test ( if there is one) for the Championship

Re: Tonight's footy
I was thinking just the same DAVE regarding their ground. Has any team played with an average crowd of 2000ish before in the Championship ?DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:02 pmGreat performance from Accrington tonight and played some attractive football.

Re: Tonight's footy
There used to be something called the Football Stadia Improvement Fund that was available to clubs like Stanley to upgrade their grounds if/when they got promotion.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:02 pmGreat performance from Accrington tonight and played some attractive football.

Don't know if its still going, though.
If it ain't, its gonna cost em a pretty penny if they have to fund it themselves.

Re: Tonight's footy
If Stanley got promoted to the championship it would have to go down as one of the greatest achievements in the the modern history of the football league.
I used to go watch them sometimes when they were in the Unibond Premier, unbelievable where they’ve got to since those days with the budget and fan base they have

Re: Tonight's footy
Two reasons in the main, John Coleman & Andy Holt. I thought the likes of Burton & Wycombe reaching the 2nd tier was the stuff of Hollywood, but if Accy can make it up this season, their story would eclipse all that's gone before.CardiffClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 11:54 pmIf Stanley got promoted to the championship it would have to go down as one of the greatest achievements in the the modern history of the football league.

Re: Tonight's footy
a lot of scandal around the signing of Barry - it was all posted on the MMT thread at the time - he left West Brom for Barcelona but everyone new he would be at Villa in the next window - Barcelona netted around £600k for saving Villa a few million - it was a real abuse of the regulations but bery difficult to prosecute a bit like the kid Zeki Fryers that left Man Utd to Belgium then Spurs (except his career bombed)huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:28 pmVilla come back with an equaliser from Barry, they only paid €1m for him. Newcastle trying to get a player sent off by screaming and rolling about. Thankfully VAR did its job, embarrassing from Longstaff and the Newcastle bench.
