Barnes and Stephens et al
Ashley Barnes has been a great servant for this club and deserves to be treated with grace. His legs have gone, his head has gone. He’s reached his end of his time at BFC.
Stephens: ship him off
Norris looks a very good technically gifted footballer. His distribution is good, and his positioning is good.
Vydra: this lad should’ve played from the start.
Benson: I’m not convinced he’s technically gifted enough
JBG: he needs time with the psychologist, the injury’s are in his head and then in his game.
Brady: I do like him
Tarks: glad he’s not developed a bad toe in this transfer window
Dyche: has been let down by the players
Stephens: ship him off

Agree with it all part from Brady, I think he's poor. Not good enough. Also Dyche kind of let himself down by being stubborn as f not starting VydraDanieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 4:57 pmAshley Barnes has been a great servant for this club and deserves to be treated with grace. Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
Chris Wood - shockingly bad!
Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
If I had a pound for every time I've seen on here, a player who has been written off, after a long injury layoff or lack of game time, to then be proven completely wrong, I would be a lot wealthier than I am now. Posters never learn and to stop embarrassing themselves!

Add Chris Wood to the naughty list today, and probably for most of this season.
As a goal scorer he's good, no doubt about that when he's in form, but as a footballer he's completely turgid.

Jones is a class above anyone in the pitch today and a class above most premier league CB’s. If he had stayed fit he would’ve been one of united’s best ever CB’s. We’ve had this discussion, at length in numerous threads. He’s a quality footballer. The lack of football knowledge on this board is embarrassing at times.

Yep, I wouldn’t disagree. But his experience, and his conduct as a pro is something we should be looking to retain in the clubs coaching setup.
Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
Not for me. Totally lacking in finesse.

Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
What today has illustrated is just what this season overall has.
Our front line, including wide, needs extensive investment. I would suggest we need at least one centre forward, and without question a right winger.

The only thing today shows is we have ZERO depth in the squad. Anything less than 3 decent signings this month would be negligent considering how many terrible windows we've had before this one.

Shocking performance from Wood for the 3-4 game in a row.
I find myself writing nearly every week “one of the worst premier league striker performances I have seen”
If anyone can highlight anything at all that wood did well today I would be impressed.
Also Benson has been the best CM for Burnley today.

Benson looks a very good player in the making. Incredible that people have had a go at him, particularly as he’s been played out of position on a couple of occasions. Glennon looks a good footballer as well.

Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
I think people are forgetting that Cork, Stephens, Gudmundsson, Bardsley , Norris and even Pieters haven't played much football recently and Barnes had Wood have been out of form which was on show today. How Benson can be criticised when he actualy brought some energy in the middle is beyond me.

Wood played up front alone, he ran channels well, he had no or little support. The distance between him and Barnes was shocking at times. Barnes one touch flicks, lazy passing and a lack of a midfield runner didn’t help.expoultryboy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 5:53 pmSomebody states that there's a lack of football knowledge on this board - the same person thinks Wood played well today !!!!!
His work off the ball was good.
Dyche pulled Wood to rest him.

He’s just not technically gifted enough to play in the middle of the park. He was lazy (I take the point he’s not played much), passing was wayward. His body shapes were horrendous resulting in him getting nutmegged twice in the middle of the pitch and letting runners through.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 6:01 pmYou'd have thought we'd just been beaten by a side from a lower division with all the stupid posts on here. He played too deep for me, which might have been on Dyches orders to cover the CB’s carrying through.

Re: Barnes and Stephens et al
I the middle you need to be a technician or an engine. Ideally both.
In the middle you’re playing a 360 game, wanting to go on the half turn, constant scanning, and that first touch has to move the ball either into another plays path or be good enough to avoid getting an oppo play involved.
Benson, who granted is getting upto speed with adult football, doesn’t do this well. His range of passing is good, when he’s got the whole open pitch to play with. He, for me, doesn’t scan enough when he’s not got the ball, the decision making starts when the ball is coming into his feet. Lowtonn is a prime example of this today. Bardsley like Alexander could play in midfield. This is true for a lot of our players. It’s why we play sideways and backwards a lot. There’s always a ball out of contact in those directions.
His physique is good, his energy and work rate are good. When you take those and you place them into a limited system, as we play, you begin to build a solid RB who is able to play to his strengths.
Our system suits our players, for example, Tarks may or may not be able to adapt to a back four/three who play 15 yards higher up a pitch. Ben Mee wouldn’t.

It was an eyebrow raiser when Ferguson made such a comment. He’s never displayed the levels to be even considered alongside the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic, Pallister, Bruce, McGrath and Edwards to name but a few.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 5:17 pmJones is a class above anyone in the pitch today and a class above most premier league CB’s. OK so he’s had some injury problems but he hasn’t ever displayed the sort of quality to become a top defender.
All that said, in a Dyche side, with the way we set up and don’t necessarily expect our defenders to be fantastic ball players, I do think he’d be a very good signing for us, if he could stay fit.

I have heard that he is fit, but he and the medical staff are doing a root and all job on him. Totally stripping back his whole physique and ensuing he doesn’t have niggles.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 7:11 pmIt was an eyebrow raiser when Ferguson made such a comment. Look at Wilkinson and Carter in RU and Brady and JBG in our club to see the domino affect injuries can have physically and mentally.
JBG is mentally shot.
He could never be United’s best ever player. Only a player that came through the academy could be that. But, Ferguson wasn’t wrong in saying he’s a generational talent, Southgate also backed his later on. Rio has been on record and said something similar.
Should never have played in midfield.
