I think that's over dramatic but both were poor today

Who for?

I agree though that they're both horribly out of form/confidence

Poor ?

That's a bit over simplistic.

I agree. We need a new striker ive said this for ages but Dyche doesn't seem to think so which is quite amazing really. Yes they can be effective at times but its rare and we lack consistency up top. We need a proper striker in and rotate the rest according to opposition etc

Incredibly poor stuff from both of them today. They play the game with such little finesse and it stands out a mile when we come up against sides we should be able to play some decent stuff against. When we play against teams with our backs to the wall it masks how poor they are in possession, and often a lack of service is blamed (sometimes correctly).

Wood will never be dropped though, as he is good goal scorer when he's in form. I just hope to God that one of Vydra, Jay, or a new signing is paired with him going forwards.

To be fair to Barnes he worked hard as always and did ok apart from his chance. But as for Wood he does need a rest or a kick up the ass.

The trouble with Wood is that if he is not scoring he offers nothing to the team. At the moment his body language looks all wrong.

This 4-4-2 doesn't help.
Admittedly both should have scored. They keep their places regardless of form because they suit our system.

Nobody to drop them for but striker should be very quickly rising up the priority list. Both absolutely stunk today.

Sometimes dropping/resting a player is more helpful than to keep picking them when they're horribly out of form.

Wood on his day is a good striker and he has the goal record to prove it but lately his missed too many of those 'bread and butter' headers. Barnes on the other hand has no technical ability and never fills me with any confidence that he will score with the ball at his feet.

It can be. But knowing after the event also helps.

We can't possibly knock SD for thinking 2-3 goals between them tonight would have improved their mindset. On another day, it would have worked, but it can't be used against him.

Drop Wood as soon as possible. I wouldn’t mind Barnes playing against United. He seems to up his game against them. Vydra is our top scorer this season after playing half of the games.
I would even debate dropping would and playing Barnes as lone striker with Brownhill behind him.

It depends what our budget is of course which I have no idea on like most of us. Players like Watkins we should be getting but we mess around far to much and miss the boat with most talents. Thinking off the top of my head I wouldn't mind Toney from Brentford. There's obviously more if I put my mind to it but we just don't seem to put the effort in when it comes to scouting not mind actually trying to pull a signing off. The last time I remember being happy in a transfer window was when we bought Andre Gray and a few weeks later Joey Barton.

Who would you play? Vydra? With Jay missing its difficult. Vydra really doesn't care enough. He wants to be anywhere else and I for one would agree he should be.

Jay Rod and Vyds. They looked to be building a decent partnership when football restarted. Barnes did nothing to warrant his instant return to the starting lineup and Wood has been pants this season.

take away the missed chances, that can happen and we all accept that - what I can't accept is lads earning 50k a week not being able to control a ball into feet on a carpet of a football pitch

Agreed. I played Sunday league and my ability to control a football was non-existent. Professional footballers have no excuse.

I'd never start Vydra ahead of a fit Barnes or Wood. Hes not as good

Regardless of how hard Barnes appears to work he's in an awful spell of form and there's questions to whether or not he can actually cut it at the level required anymore. Drop him

I actually agree. Wood literally couldn’t even touch the ball without giving it away.

In terms of potential signings;

If I had money I would go for Lucas Joao at Reading

If I had a limited budget I would take a punt on Jephcott at Plymouth top scorer in league 1 at 20 year olds.averaged a goal every 97 mins

Bang on. Jay and Vydra had been playing really well and we were putting in some very good performances with some good, inventive football on the deck. Lots of running in behind, through balls, passes over the top, movement - chances created.

Now we're back to lumping it and if it doesn't land directly on their heads, back it comes.

Wood is struggling in front of goal, no doubt about that, but he's still our best striker in my view. A bit limited today with Jay still injured and Vydra only passing a late fitness test to even go on the bench. Barnes was in, then out, and only got back in to be honest because Jay wasn't playing well either.

Didn’t I read that SD said they were all scoring well in training and could understand why that wasn’t happening on the pitch?

I would like to see a new striker come in to replace Vydra, someone full of confidence would refresh the striker department.

Wood is a confidence player, dropping him would do more harm than good. His record is nearly 1 in 3 in the prem. He is a good player in poor form. Barnes on the other hand looks half the player he was and he's never been that good.

We're all blaming the strikers, but we aren't creating enough chances. Don't look at today's game.

If you improve the midfield you can automatically improve the attack.

Being the best striker is irrelevant if your form is crap, it`s all about players in form and if your watching someone who plays the same position as you play as bad as Wood has been the Vydra must be thinking how bad does he have to get or how bad does the manager think I am. Give other players a chance when form of another starts to dip

Frank I agree to an extent, but Wood has missed 11 clear cut goal scoring chances in the premier league this season (according to the premier league stats). That would suggest the chances are there but the finishing isn’t

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was poor today, as was Barnes. With the chances they had in the first half we could have been going home at half time. I doubt they'd have played today had Jay & Vydra been fit, but I would definitely keep playing Wood because I believe he is our best striker and at least he's missing chances and not getting them. He's proved himself capable of scoring goals at Premier League level and I think once one or two have dropped in for him he'll be fine.

Really poor finishing first half, second half non existent.
Wood is getting into good positions, and missing chances he should bury.
I'm guessing that he's trying too hard. In training you don't even think about the chances, you just take them. In the game he's over thinking it, and missing because of that. Someone has to get in his ear, and tell him just to relax, and let his shots/headers flow, just like in training.

I love Ash, but he isn't immovable, but I don't think we have a ready made replacement for Wood, unless you pick Mumbongo, and despite a very good appearance today, he isn't ready for the Premiership yet.

Very refreshing to hear Dyche come out state the following “ The chance count was really high, the chances on target & the quality chances - you have got to take them.

"I think on today's quality of chances I have got to look at the centre forwards today & put a bit of pressure on them”
