It's 1973 and a 3rd round FA Cup tie against Liverpool - we didn't win it but turned in a fantastic performance

I'd only just returned South the previous Sunday to continue my studies but 5 days later I was on the overnight bus from London that got me into Accrington around 6 am. I can't recall much about the game but by the end I'd decided to stay up north for the replay, a decision that got me into trouble from the Vice Principal when I returned the following Wednesday. My landlady had reported not seeing me since the previous Thursday evening and was concerned for my welfare. The perils of following the Clarets!

Very much so - I knew Roy well but he sadly passed away in his 60s

Back at uni for me but close to getting a lift to the replay from someone involved in the game.

I picked this match as my favourite FA Cup tie. The game was two top quality sides both playing well. The game deserved goals. Walking down from town it sounded like they had microphones on the crowd and were pumping it through speakers the noise was so intense.

The best 0-0 match I ever saw, along with the 0-0 draw with Leeds at home in 73-74.
