Poor pitches in Premier League
Again, people are complaining about the condition of pitches in the best league in the World.
Elland Road does appear to be like a farmer's field, BUT...
WTF?!
How would these Nancys have coped back in the day ?

Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
Leeds pitch was originally laid for Euro 96.
They're either being stingy by not spending the cash or it's intentionally left like that to hinder other teams.

Neither really. They didn’t have the money until a couple of seasons ago.
In the first season they were in the play offs and last season the turnaround was too short for them to relay it. They’re doing it this summer.

Prepare yourselves. This season its unfortunate but cant be helped, next season anyone who hasn't got a newly laid pitch will be part of an anti Leeds conspiracy!

Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
The team whose fans believe they belong in the Premier League are complaining about their near 30 year old pitch now.
Ewood’s pitch seems to fall apart almost every winter. And it seems Mowbray is complaining about the Ewood pitch and the training pitches.

Our pitch is amazing - it’s just a shame it tends to be the opposition that get the most use out of the carpet like surface.
Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
It’s a bit weird you're not allowed into the Premier League with a Prawn Salad section stand and other nonsense. But having a terrible pitch is perfectly fine.
I’ve read in the past pitches in the Premier League have to be a certain way not just for playing but also for broadcasting reasons. It’s way when you watch foreign/some Champions League football the pitches look very dark green and not very clear at all. When you watch Premier League football the pitches are very bright and viewing is far easier and a better experience.

I was watching Celtic v Hibs last week. The pitch looked like a plowed field

Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
The premier league have a minimum standard for the floodlighting. This will make the pitches clearer to see. Sometimes that is a good thing but in the case of Elland Road it emphasises the brown patches.

Don’t know if it’s true but I was told many years ago there is a stream runs under Deadwood and that is why it holds so much water. Doesn’t excuse them from not updating it in 28 years. They were PL then, I had to look that up, it’s been so long.Claretforever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 9:31 amEwood’s pitch seems to fall apart almost every winter. Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
I thought Leicester's pitch last night looked a bit ropey, looked like The Tigers had had a game or two on there.
Compared to pitches 50 years ago they're all excellent now though.
I watched this film a few times when we played our recent cup game 9th Jan- its our 3rd round 9/1/54 cup 5-3 win v Man U.
Two great contrasts to todays footy at c 33 seconds in. Players sliding about on the "greasy surface" and our number 6 (Atwell?) having a right hack at their 7 (Berry?) in the area. The 7 just continues on in stead of exercising his " right to go down".

Re: Poor pitches in Premier League
Just watched big match revisited.
Derby v Stoke from 1975 at the baseball ground.
Proper quagmire.
Remember one game on match of the day in the seventies at Derby when they couldn’t find the penalty spot.
Somebody came on with a tape measure and a pot of white emulsion and painted it on.

As bad as pitches were years ago I can't remember players complaining about them.
