dull commentator phrases and comments.

Post by Wile E Coyote » Mon Jan 18, 2021 12:06 am

unbelievable
get a tune out of
didnt take their chances
clinical edge
worldy
opened their account
seen them given
easier to score than miss
should have scored
he'll be disappointed with that
decent delivery
you can question the defending
you need a bit of luck
played themselves into trouble
one V one with the keeper
very clinical
we didnt turn up
the manner of the victory
they got a result...(even though a 10-0 defeat is still a result)
self isolating
stepped up to the plate...yawn
bounced back
all credit to ...whoever
good value for their point
goalkeepers union
crucial save
he was not going to miss from there
really fine save
unmissable position
he fumbles it
first touch let him down
so and so is claiming it.
just couldnt quite get it on target
slotted in by....
tees it up for....
gets the shot away
well gathered by
managed to find ...
it finishes here 1-1
Burnley lose yet again.

stuart hall, waxed lyrical about our beloved game, but then descended into a sewer of his own making.

Stuart Hall commentated on Liverpool v Burnley at Anfield .He nearly ran us over in his Roller as he parked up
Then he staggered out of the car ,the worse for wear and gave us a wave and a cheery hallo as he wobbled into the ground.

Stproc covered it but I can never understand a commentator using the words " he'd earned the right to go down there". Part of what's wrong with the game these days.

"Starting to ask questions"
"Balls in the right area"

And what is it with some commentators obsession with identifying players by their nationality?

"Great shot by the Argentinian"
"Fine save by the Frenchman"

Just use their names, it"s written on the back of their shirts!

110 %

Famous Footballers name followed by the team Wayne Rooneys Derby for example.

You can’t win the title in August/September/October but you can lose it.

Cultured or wand of a left foot

Six pointer

This game needs a goal

Genuine pace

Top top

They have that in their locker.

And the phrases nearly always used on Sky commentary when covering Burnley

"Just lacking that little bit of quality in key areas"

"You have to admire their work rate"

Martin Tyler commentating on any live match

"Did you and Jamie play in that game 20 years ago Gary, when there was an incident very similar to this one with the ball ending up in the back of the net"?

"Putting his body on the line"........this expression is now used for any vaguely energetic bit of defending or whenever someone happens to block a shot.

I think it was first used on Sky's Rugby League coverage in the days of Eddie and Steve and it's now become ridiculously over-used.

"Took it with aplomb"

Aplomb - a word never used in any other context than a goal being scored.

All of the ball needs to cross the line

Just needed to get his eyebrows on that corner

The manager is warming up his subs

The was almost an unbelievable goal

If it wasn’t for that defender he would have been clear on goal

There was a coming together with that tackle

The away team never turned up so they were played off the park

That was never a nil nil game

Steve McManaman...To be very honest
Glen Hoddle...Very much so

The amount of times they say this during a game on BT commentary.

One that has irritated me in recent times is "What a strike!" for a piledriver into the top corner morphing into "What a hit!" I wince every time I hear this expression.

Saved by the woodwork. I’ve never understood that one. It’s not like the posts move in or the bar drops down. It just missed the opening. At this level. Another I don’t get. You can get punished at any level if you drop a clanger.
