My Dad's answer when posed this question a few years ago was 'central heating'.
I grew up in a house without central heating and remember it well, great answers Rolws Totally agreeRowls wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:23 pmMy Dad's answer when posed this question a few years ago was 'central heating'.
He remembered being puzzled when visiting a friends house where their teenage children all were. "In their bedrooms" was the mundane reply but if you grew up or have ever lived in a house with no central heating you'll know how uncomfortable it is to be away from the hearth.
Open fires and/or stoves burners are brilliant luxury - IF you don't have to rely on them as your sole source of heat.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:45 pmAgree central heating wonderful. No more roating near the fire or freezing in back of the room. No more breathing soot outside and soot inside if fire 'blew back'. No more newspaper catching fire when being used as a fire drawer. No more scraping faces on of bedroom window INSIDE. No more freezing or getting g soaked going out to coal shed to fill the bucket. No more looking down on those who bought fire lighters, usually Southereners or Yorkies, who can't properly light a fire with newspaper twists, spindle wood and coal. Hell I'm nearly missing the the open fire....like hell I am!
Just don't get me started on tippler toilets!!!!!
What’s that IPA like mate? I love IPA’s, but that looks like a stout/porter and I’m not keen on those at all. Just read up on it though and it says if you close your eyes it’s like an IPA?!?
Genuinely very nice and would recommend it strongly.

We were without the internet for almost three weeks until we got a new provider on Christmas Eve. We don't have a TV aerial on our roof so even the TV signal is dodgy through an indoor antenna. It does make you wonder how we got through without it. No Netflix, no iPlayer.KateR wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:15 pmthe internet stopped working Saturday evening in the middle of a Netflix movie, technician been and repaired today, so back up and trying to catch up on many things, but good excuse this morning to not work for a while.
Yet definitely felt a little lost without it, makes you wonder what we did before it was available to the masses, is there anything else in our lives that has made such a difference to us?
