Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Can we reach 30 goals this season?
With 21 games left to play and only having registered 9 goals this season I think reaching 30 goals will be a tall order. We managed 43 last season. 30 of those goals came from our 4 recognised front men with only 11 from the rest of the squad.
This season our strikers have only netted 4 times. I know I am stating the obvious but these are worrying statistics and makes me wonder why Dyche keeps persisting with the Wood/Barnes combination up front. Additionally, without our midfield/defence chipping in with circa 10 goals we will struggle to hit a modest 30 goal total. It is a good job we have got Mee and Tarks fit and playing well to ensure a few clean sheets because if we go a goal down in games we rarely look like getting anything.

We are doomed then!
Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Good question, will we get more goals or points this season ?

We will probably get more points if we achieve a few “ugly” 1-0 wins.

Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Couldn't give a toss if we don't.
Theoretically a team can stay up by scoring just 10 goals to get 10 1nil wins and so long as it doesn't concede any in 8 games that are draws.
I'm more bothered about hitting 38 points and if we do it with the lowest goals scored tally ever I'll be fine with it this season.

Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
of course we can, will we, that's a different question You'd have to say the chance is very unlikely, if we persist in playing the same people in the same way but we've all seen players turn it around.
Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Gosh, if we could reach 30 goals... wow. I'd be speechless. It'd be a real feather in the cap for the club if we could get there. Little old Burnley punching above their weight and hitting 30 goals in a season. The likes of Aston Villa may already have 29 but they've spent money on good players to get there. I'm proud we're doing it our way and refusing to hit the back of the net.

We're on track for 20 goals, equal with Derby in their 11 point season. The joint lowest in any English top flight season, ever.

We can't rely on the back 5 to keep a clean sheet every week. Particularly with the Mee Tarky partnership likely to be broken up this summer.

And halfway through we already have 50% more points than they finished with and aren’t in the relegation zone.northernpowerhouse wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:38 pmWe're on track for 20 goals, equal with Derby in their 11 point season. The joint lowest in any English top flight season, ever.
Stats eh. Don’t you love them? You can make them fit anything.
84.27% of them are made up anyway.

We only need it to last until the end of the season.
Tarky can go wherever he wants to go then, assuming the price is right for us and we can get his replacement in.
Ben Mee can the ensure the new lad improves.
Oh and I'm fairly sure Pope was 2nd last season in the golden glove....

Probably not but as long as we stay up who cares, it's points that matter not goals. And we're more than capable of eking out a few 1-0 victories if needed.

Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Yes, because the manager will begin to feel under scrutiny and suddenly try something else.
Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Ah that’s fine then. So we have got a few 1-0 grind out the result performances to look forward to, several stink the place out performances like against West Ham with no goals from our impotent forwards and a few pastings? I’m just thankful I only have to watch these games from the comfort of my armchair.
It seems that as long as we stay up that is the be all and end all regardless of how awful we are to watch.

We're in the middle of a pandemic, we've had some players out with Covid.
We've just undergone a protracted takeover and the dust is settling.
I'm not expecting a massive amount to be done this month in regards to transfers, however I'm expecting a better summer than we've seen for a long time but we have to stay up to enable us to attract the better players.

Never understood this, the match day thread is full of people saying things like, "this is crap" and "we are awful to watch" yet they post the same week in week out on the threads and any other topic they can squeeze it in.
Why not just turn the tv off, those who are desperate to be entertained can watch Man City for the same price as Burnley so watch that instead. Imagine disliking something so much that all it does it make you whinge and then you watch it once or twice a week.

Anyone is allowed any opinion they want, but those who just whinge at everything the club does needs to develop a bit of a thicker skin, if you are prepared to constantly criticise then surely you should be capable of taking some criticism back
Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
What about constructive criticism? We are all Burnley supporters and most of us proud of it. To question our style of play, lack of goals, lack of investment, manager stubbornness is in my view part and parcel of being a football supporter. Also as a football supporter it would be nice to be entertained now and again with some decent attacking football which results in the ball going into the opposition net more often.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:11 pmAnyone is allowed any opinion they want, but those who just whinge at everything the club does needs to develop a bit of a thicker skin, if you are prepared to constantly criticise then surely you should be capable of taking some criticism back

If you haven't been entertained in the last few seasons then perhaps Burnley is the wrong club for that individual.
In my eyes a supporter supports (especially in the tougher times) and a fan wants all the above you have listed to make you happy.

You are starting to sound rather patronising now. I’m not a fan I am definitely a supporter. Perhaps I am in a minority but I don’t think being in the Premier League is the be all and end all if the football we are serving up is geared to survival and nothing else.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:47 pmIf you haven't been entertained in the last few seasons then perhaps Burnley is the wrong club for that individual.

Is it any coincidence we are usually last game shown on Match of the Day? It’s not because we are little old Burnley and nobody likes us.
I started this thread because I genuinely think we will struggle to get to 30 goals. I do believe we will stay up but it isn’t going to be pretty. I then hope that the new owners who have borrowed a significant amount of money to buy the majority of shares in BFC find some more capital so that we can strengthen the squad for 2021/22 season when hopefully supporters and some fans can take up their seats again to watch with fresh optimism. If you still feel I am being negative then so be it. It is a messageboard after all for people to air their views, even if they don’t conform with the views of the majority.

Re: Can we reach 30 goals this season?
Outside the top 6-7 clubs it's always about survival each season.
Occasionally a club will break into the top lot, but they'll drop back out again.
The only thing that changes the status quo is serious and sustained investment, like Leicester.

If it sounds patronising that is your take on it, I could read your comment of being in the Premier League isn't the be all and end all (ignoring the fact a good number of fans vanish when we do get relegated) as patronising but I just choose to read the words without any feeling.Jenny55 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 4:09 pmYou are starting to sound rather patronising now. I couldn't give a **** where we feature on Match of the day I don't watch it and have little interest in have we entertained the sat at home fan of other clubs.
We have just finished 7th and 10th in 2 of the last 3 seasons hardly a club aiming to just survive. Whenever we have a tough spell this is how the forum goes. If you are expecting us to suddenly start throwing money about at players from all over I have a funny feeling you will be disappointed, but we had a noisy minority who wanted Garlick no longer running the show and now this is where we are.
It is a message board for all our views, nothing wrong though if someone disagrees with your view in them saying so, just as there is nothing wrong with you disagreeing with the whole of the above, life would be very boring if everyone was the same.

Huddersfield survived with 28 goals but that's about it from recent memory. So generally speaking if you score 30 or fewer, the odds are stacked against you.

Newcastleclaret93 doesn't just have a rant or 2, it's pretty much constantly negative stuff from them.
I don't enjoy everything, the difference is I'm grown up enough to change channel or station if its crap.
I'm also clearly more than capable of dissecting stuff on here and seeing both positive and negatives, whereas others clearly only want to see the bad all of the effing time.
It isn't healthy to be so miserable about something, nor is it healthy to keep watching or listening to something you're not happy with.
Aren't you one of those idiots who constantly listens to Talksport and then comes on here to complain about Talksport?
There is no point talking to people like that.
