Peter Swan (not ex Burnley) RIP
Former Sheffield Wednesday and England centre half Peter Swan has passed away at 84.
An outstanding player, but for other matters I'm sure he would have lined up alongside Bobby Moore in the England World Cup team of 1966 but those other matters saw him jailed and banned from football for life, one of the players found guilty of taking bribes.
When his ban was lifted he returned and played against us in 1972. That was the day we all waved pound notes at him when the teams came out.
One huge mistake cost him dear.

Swan, Kay and Layne - not a firm of local solicitors!

Those players became rightly, notorious.
Tony Kay and 'Bronco' Lane.
For Swan - it's over.

Another player found guilty was Bristol Rovers' goalkeeper, Esmond Million. Wasn't Tony Kay a big money signing from Everton?

T’other way about, Silky. Signed for Everton before the bribery case had been discovered.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:54 pmAnother player found guilty was Bristol Rovers' goalkeeper, Esmond Million. Wasn't Tony Kay a big money signing from Everton?

Kay was already at Everton when the ban came - he never played again. One England cap with more to come.

He kept The Three Horse Shoes at Brimington near Chesterfield. I played against his sons on a few occasions.
