I personally don't have any problem at all with the tweet but I think you make a valid point when it comes to being in a rut. Tony Khan at Fulham recently apologised for a performance. I think it was done in an attempt to placate the fans, but Jesus. H. Christ that is just not the done thing in English football. If Pace is able to grasp the culture of English football, i.e. viewing himself as a chairman-custodian, and not a 'general manager' *shudder* then I think it'll be fine. It's a cheap promo on twitter that will be retweeted by virtue of him being chairman. I think his whole strategy at Burnley is to engage foreigners who are casually engaged with "soccer" but actually know four fifths of **** all about English football, and to win them to our cause.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:05 amCall me old fashioned I do not think a Director of a Premier League club should be doing this - what happens when we are on a bad run?
that is not to say that communication from the club could improve - it can
there are more strategic and operational things he can talk about not the result of a match - It is the job of the directors to keep the club on a sound footing not ride on the back of the success of the team on the pitch. Though even then I do not think they should be too visible. that is not to say I don't want the club to be transparent about it's reporting, which could do with being more timely, or even subject to the rigour of a shareholders meeting. There are areas of governance in that could be greatly improved
Let’s see his reaction to such a run, as and when it arrives.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:05 amCall me old fashioned I do not think a Director of a Premier League club should be doing this - what happens when we are on a bad run?

The Southampton thing was completely farcical - next game they had something like 5 Academy graduates in the team a couple on the bench and the opposition also fielded Southampton Academy graduates and had another on the benchDCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:29 amLet’s see his reaction to such a run, as and when it arrives.
My only gripe with his communication to date was the, what I felt unnecessary, criticism of Southampton and their academy.
If these communications continue on the back of evidence of strategic, operational or other failings, perhaps fair enough.
For now, I think we see how things pan out and what Pace and his team deliver. He’s new to the world of running a premier league club - his approach a may change in time or this may simply be the way he operates.
It just brings to mind that American thing of Owners being presented with trophies, uugggh makes me shudder, remember how desperate the FSG guys were to get their own hands on the Champions League Trophy and parade round with it, just wrong - stand in the Directors box smile. clap even cheer and then go away and celebrate in privateSpiral wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:26 amI personally don't have any problem at all with the tweet but I think you make a valid point when it comes to being in a rut. Honestly if we win a cup while Alan Pace is here he can shag the handle until his cock is raw for all I care, and I might even join in with him, but in general I sympathise with the point you make about some owners using the success of the team to massage their vanity.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:58 amIt just brings to mind that American thing of Owners being presented with trophies, uugggh makes me shudder, remember how desperate the FSG guys were to get their own hands on the Champions League Trophy and parade round with it, just wrong - stand in the Directors box smile. clap even cheer and then go away and celebrate in private
We support the team not the board/owners - we may thank them we may loathe them but they should not distract from the achievements of the football staff - and that from someone who has spent all his time on here trying to get people to understand the contribution the previous board had made and understand some of the processes they have gone through to make the decisions they did

Exactly.
If he can't tweet when we have an exceptional result he might as well close his account now. He's striking the right balance already, he is simply replying to the club's official tweet in a positive and respectful way.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:05 amCall me old fashioned I do not think a Director of a Premier League club should be doing this - what happens when we are on a bad run?
It’s painful though. Picking holes in anything and everything the new man does. They wouldn’t have been as critical of Mike G making a similar tweet of that I’m certain.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:38 amWhilst I didn’t agree with Chester’s points, I’m not sure his view deserves belittling criticism or calls of negativity.
By all means, disagree and have an opinion to debate - just don’t turn it into more goading and name calling. This board will be far better for it.
I kind of agree with this tbh. The guy is different. He's from a different culture and he's new to his role and to British footy and we'll see how it pans out over a period of time before we can really decide about him. Initially I feel i quite like him and he's definitely showing his enthusiasm in any way he can, but i do get that he's not daft and he'll have good PR advice and he knows he's got 20,000 grim Lancastrians to win over. (Plus a few softy Yorkies!)arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:52 amIt’s painful though. Picking holes in anything and everything the new man does. Has there been a lot of picking holes, in Pace? I’ve seen a fair bit of investigative work to try to better understand the takeover and how it might have a bearing on the club. I’ve not really seen much criticism of Pace.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:52 amIt’s painful though. Picking holes in anything and everything the new man does. Only on this forum could you go from a new owner to Donald Trump.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:51 amBob Lord's tweets would have been interesting!!! I think Trump's might give us a clue as to how thy might have looked!!
I dont agree with Chester in this case but I do agree with DCW. Chester is one of the most thoughtful and informative posters on this forum.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:38 amWhilst I didn’t agree with Chester’s points, I’m not sure his view deserves belittling criticism or calls of negativity.

Totally agree CP, im hoping its just early doors giddiness and he will soon see that he has to be a tad more detached from commenting like this.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:05 amCall me old fashioned I do not think a Director of a Premier League club should be doing this - what happens when we are on a bad run?
