Re: Chippy
Made a point of going last week Macca whilst I was down looking after my Mum. It was absolutely shockingly bad. Chips weren't chippy chips (too thin) and they were also cold. Large and small fish were both tasteless mush. Peas tasteless and watery, gravy was acceptable. Don't care if scoring 1/10 isn't allowed, I genuinely can't give them any more.

Sounds to me that you have more chance of finding a pile of rocking horse shite than a decent chippy in East Lancashire

Glad it isn’t just me who doesn’t rate them. As for people suggesting pendle street, when it’s good it’s half decent and when it’s bad it’s shockingly bad. Plus they don’t rush to serve you in there either.what_no_pies wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:28 pmMade a point of going last week Macca whilst I was down looking after my Mum. Pendle Street Chippy Padiham- Top notch.
Plus, how many chippys can say they've fed first team Burnley players , who were playing at the time, regularly. Paul Comstive , Chris Pearce and a good few of the Sherpa Van 88 era team were regulars.
Best chippy for miles IMO.

You must have had the patience of a saint getting served there every time we went the queue was stretching all the way up the ginnel at the side of the building and beyond.....it is in a beautiful location though....we tried about five times over the summer but give up because of the hordes we went to Imrie's in Leven instead which i also would recommend.ayrshireclaret83 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:26 pmI’m not saying it was bad but I’ve had much better m. All that has stopped now obviously but pre Covid you could catch a few players in Kendalls butty shop accross the road.

Re: Chippy
Eddies place in Padiham is a hidden gem.
Generally fish and chips should be eaten straightaway and not wrapped - the steam sogs the crisp.
If it’s an unknown chippy only go in if there’s a queue.

When a chippy cannot get the chips right it's bad news.
Seen lots using frozen chips and cutting corners.
Food establishments get 1 chance off me, if they fail on the 1st attempt, i don't return.

Just for information, the one on Barden Lane has closed until further notice, not sure why. It was open last week but no longer. The one on the hill in Padiham looks a nice place but we tried the chips and they were very anaemic, few in number and on the cold side.

Connolly's chippy in Brierfield, changed hands around 12 month's ago is fantastic, its run by a mother and son from Bolton, both are very nice and helpful.

I used to willingly drive from Newcastle to Berwick for good Fish and Chips (making a day of it normally, I'm not mad). Since found the best I've ever had about a 10 minute drive from my front door. That was a good discovery.

Yeah, I generally have a natter when I go in and I was asking about it once. I usually go for a steak pie, chips peas and gravy and Tony reckons the only complaint they've ever had about the pies is that there's too much meat! Can't knock that!

Re: Chippy
So thought this worthy of an update as its Friday......
We used Old man Greenwood's in Rawtenstall for last weeks Chippy tea after the farce at Kay's the week before. Found the staff to be really friendly and the F&Cs really good, big portions as well. Find them to be on a par with Kay's so now our go to place for F&C's.
The said that they close at around 6:15pm each evening which is an issue as I tend to pick them up on way home from work, finishing in Manchester at 5:45pm but they said they'll keep a pan on if they know I'm coming which I found to be a nice touch.

Re: Chippy
My parents call Old Man Greenwood’s the Astoria chippy. I remember it as Simpsons. At dinner if you saw a lad with a box anywhere in the vicinity you had to dash to get there before them because it would be a massive order from one of the factories. The apprentice would be sent out with a list and then pay and get change for every individual order. Nightmare if you got in just behind them.

Is Holts the one opposite Oddies bakery in Nelson? If so they are very good.
Had some excellent fish and chips just before Christmas when we were at the in laws in Devon from Krispies in Exmouth - winners of fish and chip shop of the year 2019. They do battered chips - something i have never seen in a chippy before that but they are rather good.

Mr T's in Southwold.
The wait was longer than usual, but the chips were fresh cut and cooked in small batches.
I only have fish and chips at the seaside, inland chippies just don't cut it.

Burnley road chippy next to spar in Rawtenstall is now the best chippy locally. Best pies are steak from rileys in crawshawbooth... always used to get one from there on match days.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 9:59 amFriday is just chippy night, thats the law right?
Can anyone recommend a decent chippy thats in reasonable distance of Crawshawbooth, aware of Toff's but not a massive fan, and Kays of Rawtenstall but after somewhere else as last night ended up waiting over 45 mins at Kays despite ordering it beforehand for a 18:20 pick up.
Can anyone recommend a really good chippy?

I've done a chippy in Seahouses once and having to choose between the 3 of them was a real conundrum.

That’s it, it’s a false illusion that places are busier than there are, due to social distancing & so many allowed in the shop at 1 time, from the exterior & passing that’s the impression you get, there might be busier than normal due to people being weighed in which makes things look even busier anyway.
