Joyce Wellock RIP

Post by longsidetrumpet » Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:13 pm

Sad to report the death of my sister Joyce Wellock at the weekend, aged 74.
Joyce in recent years was a season ticket holder in the James Hargreaves Lower, but saw her first match in the 1959-60 title season, a midweek win against Everton in 1959, which was my first match.
Her favourite ever player was Ray Pointer, and she kept a comprehensive scrapbook of those fabulous early 60s years, which many years later she was able to present to Ray.
Illness had prevented her seeing games for the past couple of seasons, but you couldn’t have got a more enthusiastic Claret than Joyce.

My condolences on your loss. I started watching the Clarets about the same time as she did.

Very sad to hear this. Joyce was teaching PE at Walton HS when I started out teaching in 1976. A wonderful colleague and lovely person. RIP.

I am so sorry to read your tribute to you and your family. I started watching BFC about that time and on my first match Ray Pointer scored a couple against Bolton that day. Condolences.

My condolences to you and your family. I have seen a photo of Joyce posted elsewhere and I am sure I can remember her as a girls PE Teacher at Walton High. I started in 1979 but don't remember her for very long after that. RIP Joyce

John. So sorry to hear this news.Joyce had become a much respected friend of ours as we all sat together in the JHL. She hadn't been well for sometime but luckily with the help of her niece managed to get to an odd game although as you mention that eventually became difficult prior to lockdown. Joyce was certainly knowledgable when it came to the clarets, especially in regards to the 60s and often talked about Ray Pointer. She'll be missed that's for sure. Our sincere condolences to you and all the family. Joe, Elizabeth & Jordan.

No I don’t think her husband was, but I didn’t know his family well
