Adam Phillips

Scores again (penalty).
I don't think he'll ever play first team football for us, but could we get any sort of fee?

Another penalty which he won when the keeper brought him down and another assist in their midweek game. That's 8 goals and 6 assists for the season so far (10 and 7 in all competitions).

He's definitely the driving force behind that Morecambe team being in the top three in League Two.

You've got to wonder what's next for him, a loan to League One?

He's doing well there. Perhaps he should look to a permanent move?

Adam has just turned 23. He's clearly exceptionally good in League Two for a team who nobody expected to do particularly well this season. I believe he's under contract until the summer. I presume that we'll offer him a new deal even if it's only so that we will be able to get a fee for him or a sell on clause. He clearly needs regular first team football if he's going to progress.

Derek Adams has done a terrific job since going in at Morecambe - moved them from real relegation strugglers to potential promotion candidates.

Phillips - is it players under 24 for whom you get compensation should they move on?

Wonder how far Derek Adams can go as a manager ? Like you say, doing a great job at Morecambe. Will definitely be watching his career.
Was he a midfielder as a player ? Remember thinking he could be a good player, cant really remember what came of him, was it injuries ?
Apologies for going off topic.

I personally think Adam will be a 1st team contender in the next couple of year’s.Liverpool rated very highly as a youngster so probably do him good playing first team football regularly. I’m from Garstang so a bit biased.

I used to go on mid-week reserve matches quite a bit, and I seem to remember Adams being stretchered off after a horrendous challenge left the length of his shin wide open.

Amazed to find that Adams has been a manager for 14 years

His dad was a mate of Jimmy Mullen which is how we came to sign him but he was one of the group that Adrian Heath wouldn't have anything to do with and we released him. To be fair, we saw very little of him, just a couple of sub appearances under Mullen in December 1995.

He had a lot of success in Scotland as a manager at Ross County. When he came down to England he did well at Plymouth initially, getting them up to League One, but then it all unravelled and they went back down again in 2019 which led to his sacking. But to have Morecambe challenging at the top end of League Two is exceptional.

Nixon thinks he’s signing for Accy on loan. Presume his Morecambe deal will be cut short. Chance to prove at a higher level.

He missed a pen on Saturday that would have given them the lead. Following losing a player sent off they went on to lose at home to Tranmere. A setback in a special season for them.

Lew - I am from Churchtown/Garstang originally (years ago) - Where is Adam from and was he at the High School?

Had a drink once in Churchtown, intended to have a quick pint and ended up there most the day. Think it was called Punch Bowl. Nice area

We were spoiled having two great pubs back then - The Punchbowl and the Horns Inn. I think they are both still there but not sure of how good they are now.

Played the full 90 for Accy last night. In extra time the keeper spilled his free kick which lead to the keeper fouling an Accy player and the referee awarding a penalty. Accy won the game 2-1 with two penalties from their top scorer Dion Charles.

It seems that Phillips is now being trusted with the free kicks but I'll bet he's disappointed not to be on penalty duty like he was at Morecambe. He had a half dozen shots last night but didn't score. Seems to be finding his feet but it's a shame they've only for 4 games left and they're 5 points off the play-offs.

Very impressive for Accrington to still be in with a shout for the playoffs at this point (albeit a slim one)
