What a great side that was.Wonderful to watch some very classy players...Casper,Collins,James,Dobbo,Newton and a very good centre half in Colin Waldron.

Most if not all the players in that Burnley side (and QPR) would have ended up multi millionaires. They were stars but there obviously was no Sky money in those days.

Remember it well...travelled alone overnight on 10pm coach from Burnley bus station..ended up with a fat lip and a bit bruised from wrestling with a big drunken jock who'd been beating up an old bloke on the double decker out to Shepherds Bush.
Burnley fans outside ground had just taken up "part of the union" strawbs (?) song...and changed it to "part of the Longside"
Game itself was pretty forgettable..we didn't have a TV back then so I was spared the BBC coverage... QPR were very much the media darlings of the Shepherds Bush based BBC.

I travelled on the League Liner for this one. There's some footage of it here but I don't recognise anyone.

Older posters might remember a British athlete around that time called David Bedford. He was a fellow student and friend of mine and he's planned for us to take the short journey to Shepherds Bush, have lunch, meet the players and manager(Gordon Jago) of QPR before watching the game. I was really looking forward to it and seeing us beat his favourite team. The day before the game he caught up with me and told me he was off to Spain that evening for some warm weather training but I should still go to the game and ask for the tickets for Dave Bedford that Gordon Jago had put aside. As if! A northerner with his Scouse mate asking for tickets left by someone with the profile that Dave Bedford had at the time.
We were blown away from the start of the game and from what I can recall never looked like getting back into it. The other results didn't help either and then I had to try and avoid a smirking, smug David Bedford the following week. Still had the last laugh though. :D

Weren't the 118 118 characters in the adverts based on David Bedford?

It was lively on the park behind South Africa Estate or somewhere after the match.

I'm contemplating banning you from this message board for posting that link - I've just seen a 21 year old CT on that footage. :D :D :D

I believe they were. Some years later, with Chris Brasher I think, David Bedford was very much involved in setting up the London Marathon. Always pleasant and friendly as a student and a staunch QPR fan.

Not you eating the trip is it? :D :D :D - I think Bobby Driver will be long gone by now.

The young man with his girlfriend on the photo posts on this message board and his two sons have been known to on occasions.

I'll eat most things but not tripe - my dad used to love it but no thanks.

Bobby Driver was, shall we say, a very vocal supporter of the time. More often than not he wore his fez although I'm never sure why.

He also wore a long white coat (like a doctor) and carried a rattle! Once sat near him at Orient where he wound up the locals massively with quips like "come on Burnley time to stop feeling sorry for them!" He was non stop. Character

In the seats for this one. Pre match this lad came round selling a QPR pop record, I politely told him no thanks and reminded him of Burnley's unbeaten record and that was the one I wanted.
At half time he came round again and asked me again. He was politely :x told to stick it up his arse :D
