Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
Hard to think of anyone playing well, only McNeil deserves credit so far, he's the only player who can actually keep possession, carry the ball and pick out a man. Rodriguez has been okay. Unsurprising the players who do well for us are the ones with technique.
The rest are playing Sunday league long balls.

I am just sick to the back teeth of watching our total lack of ability on the ball. Will we ever improve this? Training ground work?

Yes, but I suspect the £28 million might have been a slight stumbling block!!

Grealish is head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. Hopefully he leaves this summer and Villa become crap again.

Whilst he was at Brentford. Around the time we signed Jon Walters, I recall. Good lad, Jon.

Christ! We have a bad half against a very good team and you would think the end of the world had come. It happens.

Thing is, against Liverpool the brief was simple: defend.
Tonight we’re trying to go toe-to-toe with the opposition and are getting completely outclassed.
Forget Grealish, he’s a world class talent. Compare the fullback pairs. We are crying out for someone like Cash.

I really don't understand the point in Brownhill he offers next to nothing way off the mark at this level.
We need to get Cork on for Brownhill if we want to get anything from this game

Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
I'd be tempted to bring JBG on for Wood and play McNeil centrally behind Jay. Think Villa are bossing us in midfield and the extra man may help. No creativity at all so Vydra for Wood doesn't make a lot of sense.

And Westwood is totally dominating the centre of the parkNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:49 pmI’m sorry but no one can convince me Brownhill is premier league quality. He just offers nothing at all.
At least you can see Brownhill
Is Westwood actually on the pitch ?

If it's two bad halves it could seriously dent our goal difference!!Culmclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:56 pmChrist! We have a bad half against a very good team and you would think the end of the world had come. It happens.

It was way before he went for that sort of money. We didn’t or couldn’t take the gamble (who knows) but it was back in 2017 I think.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:55 pmYes, but I suspect the £28 million might have been a slight stumbling block!!

If you watched them against city you will know this team is class ,fully expected defeat in this one, regardless of the Liverpool win, we are a poor team against footballers

Lowton is playing to narrow and giving Grealish a free reign

Get your CV to the club ASAP, we need you!
Grealish is a masterclass attacking midfielder, draws players too him, creates space. He created the chance for their goal because we were all rabbit in headlights worrying about what he will do next. We had 3 players in proximity and all were so focused on him they forgot about Target.

The lack of tackling on Grealish then Targett led to the goal .Matt Lowton had drifted out of position leaving a simple cross to be fired in for Watkins

Westwood has put in a few crosses and done a few awful long balls but at least he is trying to do something.
I honestly don’t think I even saw Brownhill that half. He’s not up to this level.

It was obvious where the ball was going 5 minutes before Grealish played it to Target for the goalscoring cross, but nobody went to him and he was in acres.

How many chances does Grealish create when on the edge of the box. We seem to find him unplayable. Took us to bits last January at the Turf. He is some player

Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
Wood and Brady need changing Wood woeful and Brady has lost the ability to cross a ball, sadly Westy and Brownhill had a poor half. The Ginger one needs to work his magic for this half. UTC

Don't know what game you are watching mate. Westwood as been involved in the game but badly. Brownhill on the other hand has rarely had a touch.
I could have made a better contribution than Brownhill even the missis could

I’d contemplate hooking Wood and brining an extra midfielder on, if that’s the case changing Brady for JBG too

Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
Their 5 man midfield has 3 guys who will carry the ball and against our 4 they are in so much space when they receive it. Because of the 5 their FBs are licensed to go all the way to our goal line knowing the cover has filled in for them.
We need to be more flexible against certain systems.

If this was a boxing match, it would be stopped.
You'd like to think it couldn't get any worse.

McGinn just showed what midfielders playing just behind the forwards can do unfortunately ours are about 40 yards further back
Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
Villa starting the second half how they ended the first. Pope makes another save.

Re: The Mighty Clarets v The Villains (matchday thread)
Villa have cut out are ability to play the ball out wide and in at an angle, which forces us down the middle and it gets snuffed out. Our two banks of four are leaving a lot of space
