Today's football
Re: Today's football
Fulham are a much better team than their
current position suggests and will no doubt see their next 3 games
as winnable.
Makes Wednesdays game against us a tad more difficult than it might
have otherwise been but I'm pretty certain we won't be as bad as Everton
were tonight so should be a very interesting, if not potentially
nerve racking for us (and Newcastle if they lose tomorrow).
I'd be happy with a draw but I hope the lads will be up for it
and will know that a win against them would put us 11 points ahead and
probably 4 above Newcastle.
Still 42 points available so anything could still happen.

Re: Today's football
That's as bad a performance without the ball that i have seen in a long, long time.
Show pony midfielders like Sigurdsson, Doucoure and James just didn't work hard enough, how much room did Reed have !!!
Add in absolute dog babba displays from Holgate and Digne and you got that.
One thing is for sure they will get a much harder game on Wednesday, they are good if you allow them to be, close Loftus-Cheek and Lookman down and you can stop them.

Before tonight, Fulham's last win was away to Leicester.

Re: Today's football
Fair play to Fulham who have never given up and have turned up in some difficult games (like tonight) and shown they do have something about them, but it's still a bloody sickener for us after us putting so much daylight between us and them yesterday. It makes Wednesday a real hum dinger now, especially because we still have to go to their place.
Re: Today's football
Fair play to Fulham doing what they should do. I do not think they will be involved in the same kind of world on Wednesday.

4 more wins and odd the draw should see us safe, Fulham will need at least 7 wins. I know which camp I'd rather be in.

I love it when the teams down the bottom give it a real go. What kind of league would it be if they just roll over and take relegation?
We will have to be at our very best on Wednesday.

Re: Today's football
Yes for all the plaudits Fulham are quite rightly receiving for their display tonight, it's worth remembering that is their 1st win in 13 games.
And we have also bagged an away victory this weekend, and now have 2 very winnable home games to come, plus we already have 26 points on the board, and 3 wins will almost certainly be enough to see us well clear of danger, indeed even 2 wins and a few draws may be sufficient this season, as long as we pick up points against our direct rivals which we generally do in these situations.
Wednesday's game is our biggest game of the season mind you, and a win will go a long way to quelling any nerves, as long as we can maintain or even increase our points advantage over Fulham prior to a tricky looking March then we should be fine.
And our form is hardly that of a team fearing relegation, after our lacklustre start, we've since amassed 25 points in 17 games, that form over a full season is more likely to lead to a European place than finding ourselves in the bottom 3.

Calvert Lewin is a big miss for Everton. We need Ben Mee to be fit

Re: Today's football
If Fulham get a win against us and carry on their form they will have an excellent chance of staying up.
If the likes of Palace and Southampton don't get their acts together they could easily be in a relegation dog fight come May, the side we put out against Bournemouth would have got a result at Palace.

I hope Fulham make a fist of it, it makes for a more competitive league and will certainly help to drive our lads on.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 10:09 pmI love it when the teams down the bottom give it a real go. What kind of league would it be if they just roll over and take relegation?

The likes of Palace had better beware though who were a shambles against us and just didn't look interested
Re: Today's football
I thought some of the games over the weekend showed the impact of having no crowds in stadiums. I'm sure that had a big effect on the performances of Palace and Everton. Also some teams look like their players are absolutely exhausted, mentally and physically, again Palace and Everton, as well as Manchester United looked like they just couldn't get themselves up for the contest. It's a very strange season in so many ways.

Could do with Sheff U getting something out of the game as they need to be competitive when they play Fulham and not start to feel like it's a lost cause.

Re: Today's football
West Ham showing how to play against a struggling team, Sheff Utd need snookers now, and lots of them, I think we can safely say they'll be competing in the Championship next season.
As for the Hammers, could they really make the top 4, logic says no, but on present form you'd be hard pressed to bet against them.
A Chelsea victory later on would drop Liverpool down to 6th, and they may well face a real battle to even claim a CL spot in the coming months.

Yes he's only been on for about 10 minutes after replacing an injured Abraham, he's getting on now, but he's still knows where the goal is.

Unless Newcastle have a miracle fight back they will be 7 points clear of Fulham who will have a game in hand. A lot of football still to be played this season

Not a single effort on target by Newcastle in that whole 1st half, the Geordies could easily find themselves in trouble if they don't wake up from their slumbers very quickly.

I’ve nothing against Bruce but I’d love to see them go down for the third time under Ashley. It would also drop their sale value massively.

Newcastle are probably the worst team in the Premier league this season.....
Re: Today's football
I cannot grasp why people on here want to see teams below us in the league get points ...
Surely them all dropping points is in our benefit
