Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
Obviously I have not seen them all but today was the worst I have ever seen by a long way. Both teams were simply awful.
So any contenders for an even worse PL game ?

Take your pick from Derbys 11 point season.

Derby were certainly the worst team but I am talking about both teams playing as badly as they did today. Southampton have lost twice 9-0 but the games were way better than today

Worst ever was Blackburn vs Leeds. On match of they day they showed the kick off and the ref blowing the whistle at the end. I had gone as a guest, I think we were in Division 4 and even I thought it was shockingly bad.

I don't know, but it wasn't worse than Huddersfield away in our first promotion season under Dyche, or Doncaster away in Coyle's season.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
There’s been a lot more worse games than this. There was the drama of the sending off, a penalty review and 3 or 4 unbelievable game-winning chances for the team with 10 men.
One of Burnley’s worst Premier League games ever, could be argued, although on reflection there’s been a lot worse. But for the neutrals, or WBA fans there was definitely some entertainment.

Our game at Bournemouth Dec 2019 was described as Such....Todays game wins it by a country mile though.

Gotta be Southampton at home to Fulham in 02/03 season
Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
Don't forget the black comedy value in watching WBA somehow fail to score from what seemed like vast numbers of open goals, two on ones, and cleared-off-the-lines. We were abysmal but the game as a whole, for a neutral, was far from the worst.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
It was the worst I have seen by a mile. Including all the games mentioned above.
I've never seen pro footballers mis place so many simple passes. Going out of play far to often.
But let's be honest. Dyche Vs Allardyce would be favourite for such a title. There's only Pullis who could throw his name in the ring to challenge them.

What made it so much worse was the Mersey derby being played in wilder weather and it didn’t bother the players at all.

I would say it's the worst team performance that I've ever seen. It was as if every single player had the same malaise.
I've seen lots of poor games where at least one or two players have redeemed themselves, but yesterday took the biscuit.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
This is a good point actually, the top clubs are very afraid of losing against each other so their games are usually quite dull the majority of the time.
Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
The better teams may have played out some dull games but there's no way there's be as many basic errors as yesterday. Was like watching a Sunday league game at times.

There's too much money in the league these days. It's not sport or entertainment.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:33 pmThis is a good point actually, the top clubs are very afraid of losing against each other so their games are usually quite dull the majority of the time.
We need to take away points for nil nil draws for a kick off. Then have a look at reducing the league to 18 teams. Too much dross at the bottom.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
in terms of lack of basic quality I'm struggling to think of a worse game. There are plenty of crap dull 0-0's where teams cancel each other out but I've never ever seen a team unable to pass the ball as much as we did.
3 points from home games against Brighton, Fulham and WBA is poor by our standards, injuries are killing us and our season

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
I used to argue against that point.
Until we ended up with £40m in the bank.
The Premier League PAY us to be in their league in order to provide competetive team and therefore and provide entertainment.
But not us, no. We chose to pay tax on it and use it as payoff money for someone to leverage a buyout of our club and saddle us with debt.
...no wonder they don't ******* want us!
I actually think most of the PL payments should be put into some kind of escrow or trust (whatever) and be taken back if they're not spent.

Someone has just reminded me of the free kick we had yesterday, in a good position, that was passed sideways straight out of play.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
Like others I haven't sat through every single PL game of every team ever to play there, but in terms of us I really do think that yesterday was absolutely the worst 90 minutes I've witnessed us play under Dyche (and under Coyle or Laws in the PL) In certain matches we've had really poor halves or not been on our game or cetain players have had stinkers, but yesterday was so awful it was almost funny because just when you started to think,"well surely it's bottomed out and can't get any worse", somebody would put a 5 yard pass out of play or pass to someone busy looking the other way and it was literally everybody at some stage or other, bar Pope (thank God!). How we got a point is beyond me, but if we end up relegated we'd sadly have to look at a day like yesterday and say we looked anything but a PL side.
Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
I must have missed that game, the one I watched had a significant number of wayward passes and miss-controls. Our game was crap but let's not pretend the conditions played no part and that the Merseyside derby was a festival of football.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 11:48 amWhat made it so much worse was the Mersey derby being played in wilder weather and it didn’t bother the players at all.

Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
The big boys need to realise that the PL sells so well because it's so unpredictable a lot of the time.
With out the smaller teams upsetting the apple cart, the league becomes dull.
Barcelona are probably getting more attention due to their losses than they are for winning at present.

Nick Pope’s attempt at starting a counter attack would also have been pretty amusing if it didn’t hurt to watch. He smashed a daisy cutter 100 yards up the pitch despite there not being a single Burnley player in WBA’s half.

yesterday reminded me of a cup tie against a non league team and we simply couldn't be arsed with it as usual
Re: Was this the worst Premier League game ever?
In terms of a team performance I don't think ours comes anywhere near as poor as Palace were last weekend.
WBA were ok, considering they had ten men and had two very good goal scoring efforts.
