Re: REPORT: A point on an otherwise desperate day
That must’ve been a very difficult job to do, writing a report on that game Tony. Well played though. It was more enjoyable reading that honest account, than it was watching the 12 players involved yesterday, in what I thought was a truly abysmal performance. Thanks as always, for saying it as it is/was.

Re: REPORT: A point on an otherwise desperate day
Accurate report as usual.
Lots of the fit players were running on empty TBH but some of the play was diabolical. We needed this break and hopefully will come back stronger at Spurs. It's just a pity that Spurs have a 4-1 lead from the 1st leg of their Europa League match as they can afford to rest players on Wednesday.

Difficult for two reasons, one we were shockingly poor and two not much happened really. The red card and a couple of sitters for West Brom and that, to a large extent, was your lot. But they were far better than us without looking anything like.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 1:01 pmThat must’ve been a very difficult job to do, writing a report on that game Tony. Re: REPORT: A point on an otherwise desperate day
My main concern after the draw v Fulham was how we might recover from the fatigue openly on show in the latter stages of the game. I got my answer yesterday. We hadn't. Enough has been written on yesterday's ' performance' in the last 24 hours on here and doesn't require me to add to it but I have genuine worries for the remainder of this season.
There are plenty of supporters on here, who, just like me, remember the season 1961-62. We were points ahead in the league with games in hand but fatigue set in, key players continuing with injuries and in the end we ' limped' to runners-up from what appeared an impregnable position. Even for the showcase Cup Final we delivered no more than a mediocre performance and a disappointing result. Move forward to season 1974-75 and in March of that season we were in with a very realistic chance of capturing the league title. Injuries and a lack of squad depth once more reared their ugly heads and the season finished again disappointingly. Form is not something that can be just turned on and off like a tap; players need to rest and train appropriately and be fresh in mind and body at kick-off. We seem a long way from that after our last couple of performances and I' m really hoping history does not repeat itself as it has a history of doing.

Having been pretty scathing about yesterday's performance I can honestly see the realism in your report and the reasons why we were poor (to say the least). Good report, Tony.

Re: REPORT: A point on an otherwise desperate day
We were poor there's no denying that, however we did at least pick up a point, which may yet prove important in the grand scheme of things.
It doesn’t seem that long ago that the injury problems had all but cleared up but Dale Stephens, Robbie Brady and Chris Wood were alongside Pieters, Guðmundsson and Barnes on the injured list and that’s too many for a squad like ours.
This paragraph explains some of the reasons for that abysmal display, and it's imperative we get at least some of these established players back ASAP, it's madness that we didn't have any viable options on the bench to change the shape of the game yesterday, and even when they went down to 10 we couldn't take advantage due to far too many players having an off day, however some of the reaction on this forum has been OTT, and we certainly can't accuse the players we had available not giving everything for the cause, sometimes teams just have days when it doesn't click, and yesterday was such an occasion for us, but even then if Jay buries that header, or we get the pen for the handball, we could have gone on to take all 3 points, admittedly WB could also argue they deserved to win the game, and given the clear cut chances they created and missed I wouldn't disagree.
So we take the point move on and prepare for the next batch of games. And surely we can't play as badly again this season can we?

Yes apart from the wins at Arsenal, Liverpool & Palace, the home victories over Palace, wolves, Sheff Utd & Villa, Oh! and the draw with Everton amongst others, last week we played well this week we didn't it happens in football, and despite all the naysayers like you who are desperate for us to suffer relegation, so you can say I told you so, we will pull ourselves out of the mire once again, much though it may pain you to hear.

If the last couple of drawn games are down to fatigue then the rest we will have next week will help with that.
